Recommend a good horror film.

I agree, classics are highly overrated.

The only horror movie to actually scare me was The Descent, so maybe give that a try.
got that, didn't think that much of it, second one was better.
I haven't seen the second one yet. Is it scarier or just better movie-wise?

it has it's scary moments. it was generally a better film.

How long before Furburt suggests Evil Dead?

Try REC.

Starts out as a pretty standard Cloverfield/Blair Witch take on the zombie genre, but the end...

Fuck, shit me right up and horror doesn't normally bother me.
got it. is a good film, would like to see the original Spanish version though.
REC is the Spanish Version. Quarantine is the American remake.
THAT'S THE ONE. it's Quarantine i've got. have you seen them both?

Splinter from 2008 was a good monster flick.
The original Saw (not the eighteen bajillion sequels they made) was enjoyable.
One of my favorite 'horror' movies was Session 9 from 2001.
And if you want a good Japanese horror film watch Audition. (shiver)

wasn't Evil Dead 2 a spoof of Evil Dead, even though it had the same cast and stuff? i thought it was funny, anyway
Nope, it was the sequel, but it was a lot more zany.

Oh, and that reminds me, one of the most unsettling films I've ever seen is Antichrist, which came out recently. Not scary as such, but so unbelievably unsettling and tense that it will give you nightmares. That and Alien and you're sorted.
oh, seemed like the second was a spoof of the first and the third (Army of Darkness) was the sequel. seen Alien, think it was overhyped

I watched that. I didn't think it was very good personally.

I recommend REC/Quarantine since they look good. I loved Drag Me To Hell (despite what someone said up there) because its by Sam Raimi and it is awesome. Furthermore Alison Lohman is fine in it!

I also suggest Supernatural. Yes it is a tv show and yes it is more action-y but at least watch the First Season to see if you like it. Since its awesome.

Back to films though....The Shining (Stanley Kubrick) is pretty awesome. As are 30 Days of Night and 1408. Especially 1408, that film is incredible.

What was that movie where the evil doctors try to sacrifice their 9 kids to actually make evil darkness so that people's fears of darkness would have a point to them?

I can keep giving spoilers if you need in order to tell me what movie it is.

seen Shining many times, though it is great. was a bit disappointed with 30 Days of Night. it was good but not as good as i thought it would be. 1408 seems to be getting popular

No, I've only seen REC, but it was very good. Kinda boring for the first half, though.
so was Quarantine, spent too much time going round the fire station.

If you don't mind subtitles, try Asian horror movies. Ring in Japanese is terrifying, and IMO much better than the American remake, and I quite liked Tale of Two Sisters (well... the last bit is too confusing to be scary, but there's a bit in the middle that nearly made me cry). Also, The Host is a pretty damn good monster movie, if you like that sort of thing.
