I really recommend Funny Games. I think that's on there. It's not traditional horror, but it's great suspense with some truly thought-provoking shots.

Here's some of my favourites

Evil Dead 2. Watching the first is not necessary, the first 7 minutes of the film "remakes" the events of the first. Very funny and one of the best horror movies ever made.

Tesis. This is a spanish thriller by one of their best directors. University student Scooby-Doos into a snuff film business and gets in danger. I cannot recommend this film enough, it's the best.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974). For pure terror, this is the best film I know of for the job. You have to take it seriously when you watch it, but when it picks up and the girl is trapped in the cannibal's house it gets absolutely terrifying.
