I know there are always music threads but hopefully this will be a little different (although it may have been done before).

I'm going to mention an album I am loving at the moment and then I want someone to recommend me an album based on the album I like (mention why you would recommend it). The next poster recommends something from the album that the previous poster has recommended and so on...

I think that makes sense.

The album I am listening to right now and loving is The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love. Excellent narratives through each song and the album and some brilliant compositions and writing.

Something by Tokyo Brass Style. I don't know the titles of the albums, but here's a song for you:

As you can see, it's a Japanese all-girl jazz band.
Perfection.

Iron Miaden's Brave New World. 8/10 songs, best record of any other album I know of. (8/10 songs I really love, that is.)

Indeed sir, one of the greatest melodic metal albums ever written. Some of the hooks are still in my head! It's an incredibly over looked album, most people listen to In Flames newer albums and immediately compare it to their old stuff and go, its not like there old stuff, its completely different, its shit. When it should be viewed separately. One of the most beautifully melodic albums I own, and is one of my favourite In Flames albums, right beside Jester race, Whoracle and Clayman.

As for Protest the Hero? At a first listen the vocals do my head in, but the guitars are too impressive to ignore. My friend has one of their albums with the vocal track taken off, I might get that off him. You should try Between The Buried And Me, if you like stuff like that but a little heavier.

I don't really know what you're getting at in the OP, but this may be because I'm very tired. So I shall simply recommend my current top three albums.

The album Streetcleaner by the band Godflesh. While technically Grindcore, Godflesh takes a lot from Industrial Metal. This is from their first full length album, and probably their best. While other metal bands wear tight trousers and sing half-heartadly about Satan, Godflesh don't even need to say anything, they just sound like hell incarnate.

The album Come My Fanatics by the band Electric Wizard.
Taking their cue from classic bands like St.Vitus and Black Sabbath, and other recent stoner metal revivalists like Sleep, Electric Wizard deliver a punishing, overwhelming droning Doom sound. They have been called the heaviest band in the universe, and I'd say that's true. While their next album, Dopethrone, is heavier than this, this is far more psychedelic.

The album Biogeek by the band Biogeek.
Biogeek, is of course The Escapists very own MiracleOfSound. He recently showed me some of the musical work he had done by himself, and suffice to say, I was blown away. It's a cross between Industrial metal and grindcore, and it's brilliant. If you'd like to hear the whole thing, I'd recommend PMing him.

Never let it be said I don't make an effort!
You put too much effort in your posts for having 18k posts

To actually respond to the thread, instead of just listing my favorite albums, I would recommend Hospice by Antlers. It has a very melancholy, but pseudo-poppy sound.

In a similar vein, If you can find it, A Ticking Clock I Couldn't stop by Afterlives is an amazing album. Lo-fi music with a lot of queues from dark shoegaze and brit-pop. A single guy did all the instrumentation and vocals on this album. Really good stuff. The other stuff on the Record Label has a similar sound if you like it.

Zen5887's favourite albums

Buck 65 - Talkin' honky blues. Blues, Folk and Country all hang out and party with Hip Hop.

Bike for Three - More hearts than brains. Buck 65 joins forces with eletronica producer Greetings from Tuscan. The music is amazing and the lyrics are heartbreaking.

Opeth - Blackwater Park. Angry, beautiful, technical and emotional. Not many bands can pull all of those off.

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue. If influence was gold than this album would fucking shine! Without Miles, every aspect of music today would be different.

Come to think of it, there are so many more..

Fiest - The Reminder
Daft Punk - Satellite
Mudvayne - LD.50
Jaco Pastorius - Word of mouth
Enter Shakari - Mothership
Porcupine Tree - Fear of a black planet
The Clash - London Calling

I'm going to stop myself there. *dies*
