I'm gonna say this again too: From what I know of it, Clannad's main demographics are high-school-age girls and pedophiles. I am in neither demographic, ergo, stop recommending Clannad.

I still think you should give GTO or Irresponsible Captain Tylor a try, they're great comedies much in the same vain as Excel Saga.

Also don't put too much merit into "what you hear", from my own experience the vast majority of the anime viewing public are into bleach, Naruto, and Inu Yasha.
