So heres the deal. I'm looking for a new Tactics/Turn based strategy game and wondered if any one give me any recommendations.

I loved all the FFTA games and Disgea 2. (The more job classes the better XD)

I already own Civ:IV and I'm currently playing through Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor.

So can anyone recommend anything?

Phantom Brave from the makers of Disgaea is great. But La Puelle (sp?) Tactics is really slow compared to their other titles, imo.

Fire Emblem is always quality.

Jeanne D'Arc on the PSP is damn good, too.

The original FFT on PSP is fantastic.

I nice little one on GBA is Advanced Wars. there are a whole range of sequels, some on GBA, others on DS.
Just thought I'd recommend something simple and fun this time.

Valkyria Chronicles if you have a PS3. It is a great game, and for the games you already played I am almost sure you'll love it

Yeah basically any fire emblem would do. Sacred Stones for the GBA is a good start.

I agree with this statement. Valkyria Chronicles is a great game... Riveting story, characters are all people you actually care about, and they even went the path of Warsong from back in sega genesis where if a character on your team dies, they are gone the rest of the game.

Definitely a must play if you have a ps3.

Edit: Now that I remember it, X-com also killed characters off for good, but seeing as how those characters didn't really have any personality or back story, I never really took it as such. Both Warsong and Valkyria Chronicles made an attempt at giving the people on your team character, which I think played out well in the long run when I was actually upset when I smudged up and one of my favorites was gone until I started a new game over.

Valkyria Chronicles.

If you can read Japanese or Chinese, go for the newest Nobunaga's Ambition or Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Seconding Advanced Wars. Both of the DS versions are AMAZING. The first (Dual Strike) is a little over the top with commanders that level with the more you play them and some really broken units, but it's still pure fun. The second (Days of Ruin) scaled things back a bit, and it is FAR more balanced, and it's online enabled too. It definitely revolves around multiplayer more.

Galactic Civilizations 2 + Expansions.

Any Total War game - just play campaign (you can auto-resolve battles if you dislike that aspect of the game).

Tactics Ogre. The SNES title was great, but the primary problem is that it was only published in English for the PSOne, but I think that version is missing some things, can't recall exactly what.

If you have a nice detailed game guide then it's not hard to play even in raw Japanese and enjoy, depending on how much patience you have to for kind of thing. The game has a site dedicated to it, with a number of features (with more to come) that are particularly helpful to people playing the Japanese original. If nothing else, it had decent story and some good options/paths as far as the alignment system and how it affects the storyline.

There was a GBA sequel (well, prequel in story terms) but it wasn't produced by the same director and such. Because of that the music is terrible and much of the game's challenge has been removed (though the original was sometimes murderous if you were underlevel or the like). Many new helpful features were added, or flaws compensated for, but each seems to be counterbalanced by a new or more emphasized existing flaw.

Except for the brutal learning curve and the battle that is literally unwinnable if you don't have the correct skills and equipment, which you need to farm in order to get.

Go for Tactics Advance on the GBA and DS instead.

If it doesn't have to be turn based then I recommend Company of Heroes, it's definitely not a RTS its a RTT.

Don't listen to this man. Every FFT game except the original ps1 title and psp remake are awful. I'm sure he's speaking of the 1v1 battle with Wiegraf (because if not, he's delusional) and the only thing you need to know about this fight is make sure you have the auto potion ability set to Ramza.

Grats. Simple as that. In addition to that there's no need to farm beyond the regular leveling up points you should get to that point. As a matter of fact however, I enjoyed grinding in that game and did it for fun. Strange, I know.

I maintain the FFT is one of the best games ever made and I don't really get into jrpgs at all. It's got a killer storyline and so deep it's daunting gameplay. Whereas the first tactics advance game opened with a snowball fight.

Told me pretty much all I needed to know about it.

I'd highly recommend the Advance Wars games. I haven't played them myself, but I want to, and I've heard great things about them. Also, go to Kongregate and play the 'Battalion' series. They're almost exactly like the Advance Wars games, but completely free online, and there's also a multiplayer one as well. Definitely worth a look :D
