I've been reading comics allot more lately but there is just way too many series to choose from and I was wondering if anyone knows of any good comics I should try and get a hold of.
lately I've been reading Transmetropolitan, the Invisible's , walking dead and the losers. My personal preferences are varied I just try and stay away from the cookie cutter pg rated superhero comics.

Sandman by Neil Gaiman. That's just a no-duh.

If you're just digging the fantasy part of comic books, then I wouldn't recommend these, but if you want to find some crazy good realistic fiction comic books (and some creative non-fiction) consider reading

Maus by Art Spiegelman
and
Barefoot Gen (I forget who it's by).

Spiegelman's book is the only comic book ever to win a Pulitzer Prize and is about the Holocaust and Gen is a manga about the author's survival of Hiroshima. It's been Americanized, translated into English and arranged to be read from left to right, though. They're both incredibly moving.

Suicide Kings. It's a limited series featuring Deadpool and it's definitely not PG (he gets both his arms cut off at one point).

Marvel Zombies is also a fun (if not somewhat disturbing) read.

The 100 Bullets series by Brian Azarello and Eduardo Risso. Amazing noir style series that despite going over very familiar ground in a lot of ways completely blows most of the competition out of the water.

MAUS by Art Spiegelman. Best autobiographical (or is that just biographical?) comic ever.

Barefoot Gen. Not only about the Hiroshima bombings, but also about what happened afterwards.

Ghost World by Daniel Clowes

HATE! by Peter Bagge (Ignore the title)

I like Cable & Deadpool, but you need to know your X-facts before you read it or you won't be able to enjoy it as much.

Agreeing wholeheartedly with Sandman, V for Vendetta, Preacher, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

I got started in comics with Hellblazer, which is seriously awesome and all screwed up - the first trade paperback is good, and it continues to be basically brilliant throughout, but the Dangerous Habits TPB is still my favourite.

Oh, and FABLES. That's complete genius.

I do think it's worth recommending some of the long-running plottish webcomics. Gunnerkrigg Court and Girl Genius are both very awesome and updated regularly. Girl Genius won a Hugo award!

Sandman, DMZ, Fables, Transmetropolitian and Anything (and I mean ANYTHING) else by Warren Ellis, Hellboy, LOBO, Joss Whedon's and Grant Morrisson's recent run on the X-men...(New X-men and Astonishing X-men). Red Son (Superman elseworlds), Crossing Midnight. What Ever Happened to the Caped Crusader, Batman Year One, The Dark Night returns, Hush...also Powers I enjoy.

Oh, anything by Wildstorm really, but I just like the silly one liners and superheroes who fuck with the order...

Edit: Animal Man...and Joe Sacco's Palestine and Safe Area Gorazde.

Edit 2: Deus Ex Machina. "God Save the Queen" and "Faker" by Mike Carey....

'Madrox: Multiple Choice' graphic novel is great. He is an 'X-man' but not a superhero, he's working as a private detective and it's film noir style very good.

'Sandman' Said before...

'Batman: The Dark Knight Returns' Batman comes out of retirement as an old and burned out man... the best Batman book out there.

100 Bullets is definitely worth checking out. I swear I couldn't put them down once I started reading them.

Watchmen was a series darling. 12 episodes I believe. Published by DC.
Birds of Prey. Misfit. <3
Elektra: Assassin. So beautifully written. Really outstanding.
