So here's the skinny,
I recently bought a Commodore 64 with a box on Ebay for a mere $60.
The downside is, it doesn't come with any games.

My question reads thus: What C64 games do you recommend for someone who has no experience with a C64? ...Oh! And I'm on a -$50 budget.

2 hours later... *sad face*

Well, the only C64 I've ever played is Uridium and it's pretty fun (but very difficult). If you can find a cheap copy it's probably worth it.

Is there a reason no-one has immediately responded the Dizzy games yet? Are they all waiting for Yahtzee to come along and do it personally? :p

On a less commercial note, I wonder if there are any sites that still have the code for writing games on the C64 yourself... (wanders off to have a look...)

Ok, I would recommend:

You like Action: Turrican 1 and 2, The Last Ninja 1 and 2, Blue Max,Rambo 2, Barbarian I and II, Impossible Mission, Usagi Yojimbo.. argh there are so many good.
You like strategy: Archon 1 and 2, Defenders of the Crown
You like RPGs: Bards Tale 1-3, Pool of Radiance
You like exploring: Heart of Africa (loved it)
You like JumpnRuns: Giana Sisters (great music)
You like Adventures: Zak McKracken, Maniac Mansion (the loading times will make you mad, but they are true classics)
You like BeatemUps: International Karate, Yie Ar Kung Fu
You like Sports: Summer Games, Winter Games, California Games and World Games
And one of my favs: Space Taxi!

Good old times ;)
