For those out there with knowledge of the technicalities behind a mouse or even someone who has a mouse that they rather like, what is a cheap gaming mouse that will get the job done? While I play a variety of games, aiming in shooters is my biggest concern. While I already have a mouse it's quite 'slow' which noticeably makes my playing worse.

When I say cheap, I mean $60USD more or less. I live in NZ if that affects anything. I can look for it from a store myself so don't worry about that :).

So $60USD gaming mouse for online shooters.

Thank you all in advance.

EDIT: I don't mind whether or not it's wireless or not. It makes no real difference right?

To be honest, I've been playing PC games for years and I've found most things promoted as a "gaming mouse" to be uncomfortable and not worth the money.

Go for brands like Logitech or Microsoft, try to avoid the noname brands, and find something the right size for your hand. Decide if you are comfortable using the extra buttons, as I personally find the placement on most gaming mice uncomfortable to use.

Wireless can be good, but they are normally a fair bit more expensive than normal mice.

I suppose I could check out those brands. I know they're damn good but I just finished a game of Tribes:Ascend and goddamn was the MS mouse I was using terrible. Maybe I'll stick to Logitech...

I think I'll try wired. I don't mind the clutter if it's cheaper.

When it comes to gaming peripherals (keyboard, mouse) I live and die by Razer. Yeah, their prices tend to run a tad high, but that's mainly for the super-excessive stuff. I have the DeathAdder (stupid name, I know) right now, and I can comfortably say it's the best mouse I've ever had. It runs at $59.99, if you're interested.

My friend who plays online fpses and mmos semi-competitively uses this:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=799191&CatId=539

and says it's fantastic.

Oh, and PROTIP:

STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM CYBORG. DO NOT EVER BUY A CYBORG MOUSE, OR I WILL BE A SAD FOX. :. I can't say I'm surprised since it's the price of a new game xD. The other Logitech mouse is half as cheap as the Razer but I'm wondering about quality. Hmmm...

I'm leaning towards your friend's one, because of money >.>, but I may save up for the DeathAdder. Thanks for your suggestions :D.

Well if you're on a SUPER DUPER tight budget, I'd recommend a Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0. I had it before I got the DeathAdder, and it was fairly good and reliable as hell. It had decent speed, not enough for competitive online shooters, but for games like Skyrim and Half Life 2 it did a great job.
My budget isn't that tight xD. Just that there's a $60+ difference between the two. Still, Razer is tempting...I may sell something.

I've got a CM Storm Inferno, fairly nice mouse, decent quality and was only £40 if I remember. A bit small though so not ideal if you've got big hands.

the logitech mice are usually good quality, but I will recommend a razer mouse. However, when buying a gaming mouse, you need to know what style you prefer. Do you want to rest your palm on the mouse or do you hold your palm over the mouse and just use your fingers to move it? What sensitivity level do you want and do you want to be able to change it on the fly? Those sorts of questions.

I personally own a razer imperator. It's slightly out of your price range at 80 usd, but I will just use it as an example. It has 5600 dpi, which is awesome for high sensitivity gaming, can program five levels of sensitivity that you can flip between with the push of a button on the mouse, has two thumb buttons that you can change the position of to suit your needs, and 1ms response time. It is meant to be held with your fingers, not your entire hand, which means your palm will be in the air while using it. The way the mouse is shaped helps control as well.

What to take away: You need to decide what features you need and what features you don't, then based on that criteria create a list of mice that fit your needs. Once you have that list, then compare prices and availability
