Battlefield Bad company 2. It's hands down the BEST online game there is on the market today. The single player is nothing special but the MP is spectacular.

Halo is fun. It's pretty well balanced...well okay, Halo 2 had some balance issues, but Halo 3 is very well balanced.

Why did Bungie think that a magical lock-on instakill weapon was a good idea?

They were rushed, and really didn't give the game NEAR enough play-testing. Luckily for us all Halo 3 fixes those issues.

If you're looking for a balanced console FPS, you're probably going to be disappointed. First off, because one's definition of "balanced" is highly subjective and I can't hope to have the necessary psychic powers to understand yours. Second, because I don't think console FPS have a tendency to prioritize balance.

Aye. CSS is such a good game once you become decent. Personally I just hate the lack of variation in CSS that you get in TF2 with the different stats for each person along with weapon choice.

Has to be unreal tournament 3, very well balanced, fast paced, makes call of duty or battlefield look downright pedestrian. Also has excellent vehicles unlike anything you've seen in a shooter before - ie. not just tanks, jeeps.

As for players, I can always find a game on the PS3 version, not a wide selection, but if you're not too picky about what mode and where you play it.

I've never played Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, but from what I've seen of the campaigns the first one is better. I know I highly recommend CoD: MW. I could beat legendary difficultly on Halo 3 without a gratuitous amount of trouble, but Veteran difficulty in Modern Warfare is brutal. If you want a challenge it's the way to go.

I have never had the extra money to pay for a Live gold account, but I imagine that Left 4 Dead (2) are both good games to play online. I'll also put out another plug for borderlands. I've played a lot of co-op and it's loads of fun.

You're right about MW1. I've played it for ages, beaten SP on veteran twice, and it's by far the game i've played multiplayer on the most.

But i'm getting tired of it, and the balance issues are annoying.

Halo 3 is very balanced. And since you CANNOT play PC games. Play Halo 3 or TF2 Xbox verison...Wait...what system do you own?

Got an Xbox and recently picked up a PS3 to play with my RL friends, who mainly are on PS3.

So, console isn't an issue.

Though, i'd prefer to play multiplayer on 360, since the connection generally seems better on Live.

If you have both I would say

Halo 3: ODST. All Multiplayer Maps + Firefight. A good deal if you don't already have Halo 3. Though you might want to wait until Halo: Reach comes out.

Killzone 2. More like MW which you said you were looking for. In my opinion blows Call of Duty away but that is subjective.

MAG. Multiplayer only game. 256 player battles. Fun.

Resistance 2. A bit like Halo with some CoD for flavor. Nice variety of weapons.

Unreal Tournament 3. Very old school. Health, armor, arcade like gameplay. If you ever played Doom, Quake, or similar, you know what to expect. Would recommend the PS3 version. It has support for mods and is more up to date.

Left 4 Dead 2 If you played L4D you know what to expect. I find the Versus mode good for competitive play that focuses on teamwork but not a good game if you are looking for the traditional competitive gameplay.

I would not recommend The Orange Box for consoles (Half Life, Episode 1, Episode 2, Portal, TF2) unless you plan on playing Portal and Half Life. Just wait until you get a decent PC.
