So I will be going to college next year, and before we start anything:
I CANNOT, ABSOLUTELY NOT, get a desktop. I wish I could, but I do not have the time or space for one.
Anyway, when I was enrolled in my school 11 years ago, my parents bought a bond from the school, to be returned when I graduate. Its quite a bit of money, either as much or more than $1000. My sister had one too, and she used hers to buy a Macbook that she uses for school. I want to get one as well, as my own laptop died a few months back. In addition to the bond, I myself am willing to contribute 200 bucks from my own funds to buy a new laptop.
I have four requirements :
1) It must be durable enough to last the four years of college.
2) It must be lightweight enough to log around campus.
3) It should be able to play games at at least medium settings.
4) Of course, it has to be $1200 or under.
I have seen the light of Gaben (and by that I mean I am sick and tired of the shit Sony has been shovelling my way), so I want to get into PC gaming. I am intending to get my own desktop when I have space and a job, but for now I will have to stick with a laptop. If it is impossible to have a good gaming experience (1080 at 60fps with medium settings) on a relatively inexpensive laptop, then I am willing to just settle for longevity and durability.
Oh, I forgot. The bond will be given back next year, so I dont really need to decide anytime soon and am open to waiting for unreleased tech or models.
I am looking at the Dell Inspiron series:

Not quite sure what is the difference between the two are, but I want a laptop somewhere in this range of capability.
Have any other suggestions?
And to reiterate: I do know that a desktop will always trounce a laptop, but I have no other option right now.
