...which has the same look, gameplay type, and overall feel that FFT had.

I beg you, pick a good one folks.
Thanks.

Goddamn. This reminds me why I miss serious FFT so much. The FFTA series just doesn't cut it.

Tactics Ogre is an old one for, I think, the PSX. But it's basically the spiritual predecessor to FFT (the team that made FFT, before they got hired by Square, made the Ogre series).

Not sure about recent SRPGs, though.

PSP
- Joan of Arc (Cel-Shaded and cutesy feeling to it despite the tragic and heroic story that is developed, but simplistic at it's core gameplay; cannot change a character's job/class, relatively easy and not as challenging as Disgaea or FFT)

- Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness( Challenging, extremely fun, and addictive, on par with FFT in terms of difficulty, still my favorite out of the 2)

DS (There is a LOT of SRPG for the DS), but I still haven't played all of them considering I spend more time on a PC.

- Front Mission 1

FFT was a pretty serious SRPG and its character development system didn't really play like Disgaea at all--the tweaking as a bit easier and a bit less obsessive-compulsive. The Front Missions were good games, especially the third, but I'm not sure if "action point" systems are what the OP's looking for. Also, they're about giant robots. Politics, too, but their appeal is vastly different.

Shining Force was a bit more simplistic, but then again it predates FFT by a good bit. Fire Emblem's basically the current standard for Strategy RPGs, but those games are both ludicrously hard and less open for individual character twinking than FFT.

I don't know about the rest of you folks, I liked FFTA more than FFT. And Disgaea is hilarious. I would say that if you liked FFT, pick up Disgaea.

I personally liked the Fire Emblem games a lot. They're sort of a strategy RPG.

I just wish Squarenix would make an FFTA game that had a similar mood and emphasis on plot as the original FFT.
You just answered my question as to why I will never play a good J-RPG ever again.
