Old Boy. (Back me up on this).
No. Watch the corridor scene on YouTube and do not watch the rest of this movie.

Unless you really like incest.

unlike a lot of the people posting I'm going to recommend something that's actually more obscure, try to find a movie called Zero Effect. It is a solid mystery story with a bit of humor and some great acting.

The Fall.

Its about an injured stuntman in the 1920s telling a fantastic story to a little girl. It sounds pleasant, but it has a darker plot than you would think. Overall, its one hell of a film that left me very happy.

Plus, it has some of the best cinematography I've ever witnessed. Unfortunately, the trailer reveals a little more than I'd like, but most people don't like jumping into movies blindly, so view at your own discretion.

The scene transition at :50, when seen in the actual film, is breathtaking. Do yourself a favor and watch this movie.

E.g. Pan's Labyrinth is NOT obscure, but lots of people that don't actually watch movies but just go and see blockbusters wouldn't ahve seen it. Yet it has probably been watched by 50% of the subsequent posters who will go on and on about how it's not obscure even though I already said that. Yet you might not have seen it?
Or do this if you haven't. Pan's Labyrinth is my favorite film ever.
I just finished watching this based upon your recommendation and The Fall ended up being the first film I teared up during upon watching. That movie was the most surreal and beautiful pieces of cinema I had ever seen.

A thousand thanks good sir.

Moon, with Sam Rockwell. I honestly don't know how popular it was when it came out, but I know I hadn't heard of it, and I adore it to this day.

not sure if it would be obscure to you, but i'd definitely recommend Spirited Away (which was mentioned somewhere here by someone, which is why i'm throwing my vote behind it).

I'm glad you liked it! It seems like such a happy movie, until you realize what's going on. I literally yelled at the character when I realized it.

The director, Tarsem Singh, is such a talented cinematographer. If you can handle psychological horror films, check out his other film "The Cell" (if you can look past the cast of Jennifer Lopez and Vince Vaughn. Both play roles you would never expect). Imagine The Fall's cinematography, but with a darker twist.

Tarsem was also the director of Immortals, which was just in theaters.

Nausicaa of the valley of the wind is a really good anime. It's got an atmosphere as thick as fog, interesting characters, a moral message that's not really in your face and above all a very involving story. Check it out.

here's a few that would be obscure to 20 year old's that aren't members of the escapist

a clockwork orange (best use of an antihero i have ever see)

the thing from outer space (while the thing from the 80's was horror with a scifi twist this one is more the other way around)

y Tu mama Tambien, one of the best foregoing movies i have ever seen

blood simple the Coen brothers first movie while not as good as their later ones still its deserving of a look.

water ship down an animated movie that proves moviebob wrong rabbits can be scary. (Ive read and enjoyed the book as well)

there you have it five movies that ive never heard mention of at school or from peers but that im sure most of you already has.

have you seen Battle Royalle or the original versions of The Ring or The Grudge?
There's an original version of the Ring?

(googles). Dammit. I couldn't sleep for two days after I saw the Ring. Now that there's another version, I have no choice but to watch it.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. There's an awesome scene where he responds to reporters who represent him negatively in the news papers. You'll know which one I'm talking about.

Since this is a gaming site, The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters.

It's a documentary about getting the high score in Donkey Kong. It's structured like Rocky and is very exciting with a lot of memorable characters and interesting facts. It's my favorite documentary.

3 Idiots, an Indian film with dialogue switching between English and Hindi as the characters speak. A funny, bittersweet, overall happy film about Indian students at an Indian engineering college and their eventual quest to reunite with their one buddy.

Persepolis, a French language animated film with an English translation about an Iranian girl growing up as the fundamentalist regime destroys the US backed dictatorship and takes over the country. Mostly sad, but with funny parts and a good message and story.

Lucky # Slevin. One of my all time favorites. I did not at all expect the twists and turns in this movie. I didn't know much about it before I saw it, but I'm so glad I did see it.

Cannibal Holocaust. It's the perfect romantic comedy to snuggle up next to someone with. Seriously. Do it. You'll thank me.
