I've been in the mood for some time to play a war shooter, but I haven't found one that I have enjoyed in recent years so I was hoping that some of you can help me out. Now before everyone starts posting "play COD" or "play Battlefield, its a much better game" let me just say that I don't want to play either. Call of Duty WAS good in all, but my interest stopped at Modern Warfare. MewTew was ok, but it was nowhere as good as the first one and I didn't really care for COD 5 or Black Ops either. Also I wont go into full detail on why I'VE HATED EVERY BATTLEFIELD GAME I'VE PLAYED I will say this: I don't want to play one, don't even try to convince me that Battlefield 3 will be awesome, I will never play it. So now that thats out of the way can anyone still recommend me a good shooter? I only play on PC these days and I don't have the money to go out and buy a PS3 so that I can play MAG,which I really enjoyed. I do have a 360, but its been collecting dust since I built my rig. Also wanted to play Brink, but the mixed reviews are making me hesitate from buying it. Can anyone help me out?

Well if your looking for a semi-tactical take on the War genre
Try Brothers in Arms:Hells Highway
Story is better than most,Characters arnt one-dimensional
and the firefights feel real and intense

Ahh, that could be hard...

Have you tried the Pre-Mainstream CoD games (1, UO, 2, 3)?

Frontlines: Fuel of War was good, like Battlefield but with more arcadey-ness and a focus on fun.

Star Wars: Battlefront is amazing, it has SO many types of maps with huge variations it is my go to when CoD and Battlefield let me down.

I'll think of some more..

Wait! Halo is AH-MAIZE-YNG! I'm in no way a fanboy so when I tell you that it is amazing in every way, I am in no way biased. (Please disregard the first bit of that sentance due to untruths - the rest is all correct, 'cause it is)

Brothers in Arms, full stop. All of them are amazing, and if you're a PC gamer, you can pick up the collection for 20 bucks.

well tbh you are shit out of luck because most developers are afraid to go into the serious shooter market (i.e. not duke or borderlands or bulletstorm). You could look up MoH but that series is getting old and is not very good.

Red orchestra i heard is quite good. Brothers in arms is meant to be alright i hear as well. The sniper elite series is good to a point but requires a completely different gameplay style to the standard shooter these days and so don't go in expecting it to be all guns a blazing.

Most developers are afraid to go into this genre now unless they have big bucks behind them like activision and EA kind of big bucks so its all pretty much monopolised there.

There is TF2 and its F2P but its not really a war shooter but its one of the only reasonably decent ones left out there now tbh.

Don't take all this as gospel from me though i sort have fallen out with the shooter genre these days because of the more heavy focus on the run and gun shooters as opposed to ones that require some tactical thinking and actually have limited ammo as opposed to just picking up shit tonnes from everywhere you look.

EDIT: on the case of things coming out RO2, Deus ex and red faction though the last two might not be what you are looking for and red faction is probably more something you would buy for console then PC (in other words it will most likely be ported rather badly)

EDIT 2: take a look at steam for more stuff as im missing quite a lot of stuff out
