THANK YOU! Finally someone who agrees with me! I can't wait til the Saw game comes out, the 360 version comes out on my birthday!TPiddy said:First Clock Tower only!
Condemned, and the first half of Condemned 2.
Also, Saw: The Videogame is coming out soon and it looks like it could actually be good!
did you not like SH: the room?Longshot said:I'm pretty dissapointed in the lack of horrorgames for the new gen. consoles. I'm not an expert in the horror genre, but as far as I see, the options boil down to Dead Space, Silent Hill: HC Condemned 2 and Siren Blood Curse. I have Siren, but the other two is, from what I've heard, not very good if you want a scare. SH:HC should be a disgrace to the series. Condemned I have played and completed, but it was only good for about the first half(that first half was pretty damn good though). And even then, it wasn't really horror as much as it was a really gritty and brutal setting.
Now, I haven't played THAT many horror games, but I've loved the 3 first SH games, Resident Evil 2 & 3, Dark Fall(an old p'n'c horror-adventure) and Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, nack when I was playing on my PS1, and I really feel like playing some good horror games now.
So what should I look for? I realize there's not many options when we're talking current gen consoles, but since the PS3 and X360 is bacwards compatible with PS1 and Xbox games, there might be something there I could get? I have a wii too, if there's anything there.
I have already ordered Project Zero/Fatal Frame 1 & 2, so what else should I get, my fellow Escapists?
Do tell a little about the game you recommend, instead of just namedropping. Or try and convince me Dead Space is good, if you think so. Are there any titles on the horizon I should look out for?
Hmmm... I can play gamecube games on the wii, right? I came across Eternal Darkness in my own research, and that looked infinitely cool.Fauxity said:Eternal Darkness is an old Gamecube game inspired by Lovecraft mythos. For a 2001 game, it's really aged well. I still play through it once in a while, and getting to control all the different characters keeps it interesting while the plot unfolds. That is, if you can find a copy.
Gonna look at them. when you mentioned, I recalled I could get them for free(I review for a website).Fauxity said:If you don't mind PC games, though, try the first two Penumbra games. They're adventure games inspired, again, by Lovecraft. Interesting story even if it does go a bit Indigo Prophecy at the end, and the mechanics are both intuitive and fun. Not too graphics intensive but keeps up a chilling atmosphere.
I've played FEAR. It was pretty good, yeah. Can't be bothered to look at the sequel - I played the demo and was very dissapointed.Fauxity said:Sorry for listing another PC title, but the original F.E.A.R. (neither of the expansions, sequel is okay but not as good) is a great FPS with a really well thought out story with plenty of niches filled depending on if your focus is on finding all the little details or just killing waves of enemies. The gameplay gets a bit stale and predictable near the end, but the story was more than enough to get me through the rest of the game. The horror elements are well-implemented and varied, with hallucinations abundant and a creepy little girl thrown in as well.
I've played the 2nd one, and it was great, the first half. Once things started witht he cult, it really went south. Does the 1st deliver all the way through?Fauxity said:On the 360, there's the two Condemned titles. Although the forensic science parts definitely feel tacked on with a sort of pixel hunting that I haven't experienced anywhere other than point and click adventure games. Combat is a big part, mainly featuring the protagonist beating the shit out of psychopathically possessed hobos with sledge-hammers, fire-axes, bits of steel piping and whatever else you can find. Sometimes relies too much on things jumping out to scare you, but usually it keeps an entertaining and genuinely foreboding depth to it.
Not an option, I'm afraid. I don't have a console that can play it.Melion said:Fatal Frame 3
Oh, I hadn't heard of Cursed Mountain, other than I new there was a game called that for the wii. Gonna look into that.DrDeath3191 said:Wait for late November on Wii. Shattered Memories and the new Dead Space should be out by then. Until then, of course, you could play Cursed Mountain.
System Schok 1 and 2 are two games I've always wanted to play, but never got around too. Gonna consider it now, though. Thanks. The Madman said:System Shock 2
I have lost count of the times I've played that gametsb247 said:I would recommend either F.E.A.R. or Condemned: Criminal Origins. Both of those games scared the hell out of me.
If you want to go old-school, I would recommend Aliens vs. Predator 2. Back in the day, that game made my skin crawl.
I used to have this for the PC, but lost it. Never got through it, but maybe I should pick it up again. Good idea.Chaosut said:Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth - An Lovecraftian FPS set in the Cthulhu Mythos that has a great atmosphere. Though the second half of the game turns into more of a shooter amd get's a bit bland.

i thought it was very underrated and extremely creepy
1. Yes you can. Complete backwards compatibility.Longshot said:-snip-
Don't forget that you'll need to plug in a GCN controller and memory card to play it though.Longshot said:Hmmm... I can play gamecube games on the wii, right? I've been a fan of the movies for a while now because they've got that cerebral edge that sets them above 'torture porn'. The game looks like classic adventure gameplay where you find this and combine it with that and take it here, but with the added element of the death traps and scariness found in the Saw series. Could be a sleeper hit!Darkblaven said:THANK YOU! Finally someone who agrees with me! I played RE2 long time ago, when I had my ps1. Then, a few weeks ago, I was lucky to get it cheap, together with Dino Crisis. So now it sits on my shelf, waiting for me to go back to Racoon City. Can't wait.Pararaptor said:I remember RE2 scaring me shitless a few years ago. And I mean shitless, as in, not being able to sleep at all shitless.
Yeah, thought so. I'll have to see if I can pick up some GC peripheral cheap somewhere.Lukeje said:Don't forget that you'll need to plug in a GCN controller and memory card to play it though.Longshot said:Hmmm...
