I have just recently gotten into this whole gaming thing and I am wondering if you guys could recommend me some games?

I have as I said just started gaming so I haven't played that many games and I am open for all kinds of suggestions.

The systems I own are PS2, Gamecube and PC.

So far I have enjoyed the Half-Life series alot. And overall I have enjoyed immersive games with engaging stories that takes it audience seriously. Gameplay isn't that important.

Things I enjoy:

* First Person Shooters
* Immersive games
* Valve
* TimeSplitters
* Half-Life series

Things I don't enjoy:

* RPGs
* RTSs

Games I am getting:
Bioshock
Shadow of the Colossus

Thanks in advance! :D

Super Smash Bros. Melee for Gamecube.
Everybody loves Smash Bros. Everybody.

Wait, you want serious games. Scrap that, then.
Hm... I can't actually think of any games that have a good story that aren't RPG's or haven't been mentioned by yourself.
Fat lotta' help I've been, huh?

Well, you will be very pleased with Shadow of the Colossus, I promise you that.

Other than that, Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4 are must haves for the gamecube. Two of my all time favorites.

I think your contradicting yourself there. Anyway if you like story and immersion you cant do any better then Bioware. If you want a SciFi story get Mass Effect if you want a more fantasy story get Dragon Age Origins. Fallout 3 might be right up your alley as well.

I think that most immersive games with engaging stories that takes its audience seriously ARE RPGs.

Just sayin'.

OT: Fallout3 and all its DLCs. It's technically an FPSRPG but I think you'll learn to love it.

Aren't RPGs games with turn based combat and creating a character that you level up?

When I hear "RPG" stuff like WoW comes to mind. And I don't enjoy games that are so slow paced.

And are there really no immersive action games?

But Fallout 3 looks really cool though. Thanks :)

Um.... Let me think about this....
Tf2?
Left 4 Dead?
COD- Maybe (My personal Favourite being 5, but you go for which ever you want)
Um....
....
....
....

I'll be back!

EDIT!
Oh bloody hell I feel silly. You like immersive FPS games, go for S.T.A.L.K.E.R!

In the vein of Fallout, Metro 2033 and any of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games.
Though your computer may chug a little under the weight of Metro 2033.

Turn-based combat is largely restricted to JRPGs and older western RPGs, before computers and consoles became powerful enough to handle real-time combat. Mass Effect is a 3rd person shooter, obviously in real time. Dragon Age is pause-and-play in real-time, but you can switch between party members. I think you'd enjoy Mass Effect 2 more than DA, though, given your stated preferences. There are hardly any RPG elements left in it.

technically any game you play is an RPG as you are playing a role,

especially since you are new to games be sure to keep an open mind, don't be afriad to try something you might not think you will like, often times a good game is something you wouldn't think to play in the first place

keep an open mind when it comes to games, please.

I always giggle when someone says they like valve, I personally am glad to see that valve finally has it's act together but once upon a time valve was a terrible company, they couldn't meet a deadline to save their life and post poned time after time after time. Anyone remember Counter Strike: Condition Zero? that was a fun time.

I digress, basically what I'm getting at is don't have brand loyalty, there are lots of games to play and sometimes the worst dev ever can come up with a fantastic game, once upon a time Valve was that worst dev ever and now they are one of the most successful.

a new game came out on steam that was pretty good called Singularity, it was pretty short (I beat it in one day, played on easy but none the less) but it was a ton of fun, you can manipulate time but not in the trdaitional sense, you can really only manipulate time in a localized sense (object, people, small area) rather than stopping and rewinding the entire world you can break or repair objects. It's a very cool game mechanic that they could have improved on.

you might also want to try prototype, not an FPS but it was pretty fun, do a google search on great FPS's and other things, just start looking through the last 3-5 years top game lists and games of the year, often time those are the ebst games to give a shot. That's what I do when I'm out of games, I go looking at lists that places like IGN and PC Gamer or whatever respective console magazine OXM PXN NP have posted they are great places to find games that the majority of people really liked.
