So I am writing a story and would like some music to play while I type. I can't focus if if the song has lyrics, so there goes my entire music collection. What is good music to type to, has no lyrics, and is not dubsteppy or electronic? Anyone have any tips?

The band Pelican is entirely instrumental and they are great artists, but it all depends on what you are looking for!

Dream Theater or Pink Floyd. Such nice music for the ears... Very inspiring at times as well. For DT, I recommend starting at Images and Words, and for Pink Floyd, listen to The Dark Side of the Moon and then continue. Have fun. :)

Edit- No lyrics? Scratch Pink Floyd then. Keep Dream Theater for Stream of Consciousness, and substitute Pink Floyd for a pianist named Yanni. Or at least that's what I was told. Such nice piano pieces, along with other instruments...

These make anything you do a helluva lot more urgent and epic.

Yeah, Mass Effect 2 is go-damned awesome.

I know when I need to sit and type for a while, listening to the soundtrack from The Witcher 1 usually does the trick.. though I might be alone in this

Any of the Donkey Kong Country Soundtracks or the remixed album for DKC 2.

If I was writing a story, I'd want something epic. Therefore post-rock: Russian Circles, Godspeed You Black Emperor, and I second Pelican.
A few film scores too: Inception, The Dark Knight and Batman Begins.

Oh look, it's Godspeed's entire discography. Good God.

I listen to Ghosts I-V by Nine Inch Nails when I am programming. Starts out nice and chilled and slowly gets more lively which I find gives me a nice background rhythm to block out distractions and get the work rate up.

It is a double album too so there is a lot of listening time.

This:

If you're trying to write something psychotic anyway. Last time I watched that video I blacked out and then woke up naked in a forest two days later.

Actually, you might be better off with this:

Or it might send you to sleep idk, try it anyway.

Blockhead is my favorite artist, and I've found it to be the best possible background music while working. Check it out.

Also, classical.
