So, I've read El Goonish Shive recently, and I've been wondering: Anyone else have any good webcomics? Preferably ones more character focused, will well developed characters.
I've also read homestuck.

As I said before in a previous thread, Looking For Group [http://www.lfgcomic.com] has been my go-to comic for years.

Give it a read if you want a good story with humor spiced in copious amounts.

I still enjoy it to this day.

Homestuck [http://www.mspaintadventures.com/]. It's a webcomic that mixes music, flash animations, and interactive flash games for a whole lot of good fun. It's got the most intricate and complex story I've ever seen. It's also pretty damn long, something over 5 thousand pages now, with more words used than the Bible, which can be pretty intimidating. Most people give up in the first hundred pages or so, since it starts kind of slow. It's also got a fanbase with certain vocal elements that are as annoying as fans can get. You can avoid them easily enough. Still, it's a rewarding tale with an epic scope.

Homestuck fairly recently finished up its Kickstarter campaign with 2.5 million dollars and is developing a game for it to be released in 2014, though the comic itself is supposedly going to finish up sometime in 2013.

Below is the video the author made for Kickstarter. It's mostly a trailer of various moments within the comic. It's kind of spoilerish, but odds are (if you actually start reading it) you won't remember the spoilers.

*Edit* Oh you've already read Homestuck. Carry on, don't mind blind old me. More on subject then, have you read Hussie's earlier work, Problem Sleuth? [http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=4]

A few of my favorites (not including EGS and in no particular order):

Shlock Mercenary [www.schlockmercenary.com] - Well done comedy concerning a company of mercenaries in a pan galactic civilization
Jack [www.pholph.com] - primary character is basically the grim reaper, story is centered around his unwilling role in the life/death/judgement cycle (NSFW, although that is not the focus, hell is one of the main settings after all)
Goblins [www.goblinscomic.com] The setting is basically Dungeons and Dragons, with the story told from the perspective of some of the low level trash monsters.

I was about to mention LFG, but Z beat me to it

Only one I read on any regular basis is Dinosaur Comics. It's all wordplay and wry observations on semantics and bizarre conversations with God all applied to the same series of images of dinosaurs destroying small villages.

This. Dinosaur comics is awesome. The fact that the same six panels haven't gotten stale in several thousand strips shows just how damn good the writing is.

Boxer Hockey is a great read for a webcomic. It's on a hiatus right now, but it's coming back in January. You can find it at [link]boxerhockey.fireball20xl.com[/link]
Johnny Wander is awesome. I'm not exactly sure how to explain it, but it's great. It's not a story driven comic like Boxer Hockey, but it's still great. It's at [link]johnnywander.com[/link]
Lighter Then Heir is also good. This one is also story driven and is updating daily right now so it can finish the current story arc. [link]http://lighterthanheir.com[/link]
Final one is Taco Truck. It's great, even with it's silly title. [link]http://tacotruckcomic.com[/link]

I wish I could explain these, but I'm bad at things like that. Sorry. But they are all great. Give them a read. Sorry I couldn't explain them too well, but they're superb.

Questionable Content.

I've recommended this webcomic to many people before and they have told me that they have thoroughly enjoyed it. It's one of my favorites and I hope that you will enjoy it.

Short synopsis:

Marten Reed is your average, typical good guy whose into Indie Rock and has a mischievous and offensive anthropomorphic personal computer, or AnthroPC, named Pintsize. He goes on several adventure and trips of self enlightenment, along with his friends; an ever expanding and deepening cast of friends, lovers, co-workers, neighbors, exs, associates, and AnthroPCs. Throughout the webcomic, these characters experience love, conflict, silliness, life lessons, acceptance, fellowship, comedic situations, and interests in every media outlet.

The author updates daily during the weekdays and every comic strip is funny on it own right, while still delivering well-developed story arcs. You can also read his webcomic from the beginning and see how his drawing skills have improved over the years.

Order of the stick - awesome comics about a D&D rules driven fantasy world, that still manages to be fun.

Manly Men doing manly thing - truly, it's the manliest of them all.

and....

Oglaf - because it's well, Oglaf

Those are all for the moment, these are the ones I watch pretty close

Errant Story finished this year after a long run (started 2002).

The plot starts off with a student trying to find ultimate arcane power and ends with a massive upheval of the world.

It's also a good comic if you hate the concept of Elves being perfect immortal beings who can do no wrong.

Darths and Droids is another good comic based off the concept that the Star Wars saga was a Tabletop RPG, with both the PC's and the players themselves getting character growth.

Here's nine very well drawn comics. Ranging from horror to fantasy and humor.
Prague Race [http://praguerace.smackjeeves.com/]: Extremely slow moving (I mean glacial slow) but beautifully drawn horror comic.

Paranatural [http://paranatural.net/]: Somewhat slow moving humor/paranormal comic that's recently picked up its pace. Awesome art and writing.

Gunnerkrigg Court [http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/]: All around well done fantasy comic. Frequent updates and art that has made leaps and bounds over time.

Gunshow [http://gunshowcomic.com/]: A frequently dark gag a day comic. Reasonable update schedule. Humor can be hit and miss dependent on your tastes.

A Red Tail's Dream [http://www.minnasundberg.fi/comicindex.php]: Amazingly well drawn and written fantasy comic. Super rapid updates.

Strays [http://www.straysonline.com/]:Good art and writing. Semi-standard fantasy, but the story hasn't really picked up yet. Updates are slow.

Godsend [http://godsend.shatterlands.com/comix/]: Amazing art even if it's black and white. Story is thick but still picking up. Moderate updates.

Unsounded [http://www.casualvillain.com/Unsounded/]:Awesomely drawn fantasy comic off of recent hiatus. Rich story with some seriously gruesome parts. Moderate updates.

Nimona [http://gingerhaze.com/nimona]: Simple but well drawn humor/fantasy comic. Story is just starting off. Slowish update schedule.

Oh curse you, you ninja. My currently favorite webcomic. Alas, poor Tagii; did she even last a month (in-universe I mean)? But yes, it's a great comic; the author has a knack for writing and weaving the plot, and it shows.

Although I can't recommend any good story-based or character-based web comics, I can recommend Three Panel Soul [http://threepanelsoul.com/]. By far my favorite web comic I've yet to read.

You want good webcomics? Well I got some:

Order of the Stick- a fantasy webcomic... with stick figures. It starts off as a parody of role-playing games... and moves on to something more.

Darths and Droids- basically the Star Wars movies were a tabletop RPG. It manages to explain some of the weirder aspects of the prequels (even Jar-Jar) by having them be the creations of a little girl's imagination.

8-Bit Theater- An 8-bit comic poking fun at the first Final Fantasy game. It has some pretty dark humor, but it's still fun nonetheless.

Bob and George- another 8-bit comic, this one based around the Megaman games. Funnily enough, the 8-bit portion of the comic was meant to be a placeholder for a hand-drawn comic... but it soon became the regular comic with the title characters interacting with the other characters.

Jack- an anthro comic based around the afterlife in a world of anthro animals. Very dark, but that makes the poignant moments shine all the more. Remember, just because it has funny animals in it doesn't mean it's for children. DEAR GOD IS IT NOT FOR CHILDREN! It might be a bit polarizing, but worth a look for anyone who is brave enough to give it a shot.

Scandinavia and the World- basically, it's about anthropomorphized nations.. yes, just like Axis Powers Hetalia, though it focuses on the Nordic countries. And as a fan of the Hetalia anime/manga, I really enjoy this one.

Breakfast of the Gods- a dark and edgy tale about a world of breakfast cereal mascots. trying to stop the schemes of the evil Count Chocula. No, really. It's neat to see how a variety of cereal mascots are inserted into this world.

Double K- It's Tenga Toppen Gurren Lagann... portrayed as a buddy cop comedy. Really. It's a bit over the top... but what would you expect from something like Gurren Lagann?

Digger- a terrific fantasy epic about a wombat (our titular character) ending up in a place far from home, and in order to get back, she must first kill a dead god. It's beautifully drawn, well-written, and very engaging.

Tales of the Questor- A story about a about a young Racoonan (anthro raccoon) named Quentyn, a daydreamer who wants to become a Questor- a hero-for-hire, if you will. There is a bit of religious undertones, but think of it more as a Narnia-esque allegory.

The Adventures of Doctor McNinja- A fun comic about a doctor, who's also a ninja, and all the weird adventures he gets himself in. That's pretty much it.

The 10 Doctors- basically, a Doctor Who fancomic wherein all the Doctors (at the time, at least), are brought together under unusual circumstances, and have to figure out what's going on while facing down their various foes. A great comic for fans of the show.

My favorite webcomic by far is <url=http://www.casualvillain.com/Unsounded/comic/ch01/ch01_01.html>Unsounded. The art starts off gorgeous and only gets better, the characters are fun and flawed, and the worldbuilding is fantastic. It updates three times a week, sometimes more, but the author goes on a one-month hiatus between each chapter. She generally keeps a 60-page buffer. The story is planned out for three "books," the first of which will be 25 chapters, and the author is currently on chapter seven of the first book. So yeah. If you like your comics to be long, well-planned, and dependable, this is a keeper. (It's not as long as Homestuck, though. Obviously.)

It starts as the story of a young rogue and her zombie-mage bodyguard: the girl is on her first big mission from her thief-lord father, to travel across the continent and get her cousin to pay up on his debts. Meanwhile, her zombie companion tries to keep her out of trouble while hiding his undead-ness from the world; zombies are fairly common in this world, but usually they are just shambling slave labor, not sentient and magical. Along the way, the pair gets tangled up in the various schemes of smugglers, policemen, and secret societies, and they find that the thief-girl's mission might not be what it seems. (Or it might be what it seems. I have my own theories, but it hasn't all been revealed yet.)
