Recommend me some Sci-fi series that is not Battlestar Galactica

..or Firefly, Dr.Who, Torchwood, Star Trek, Andromeda, Heroes and Sarah Conner Chronicles. I have either seen them all or the little I have seen does not fascinate me. I love BSG, Firefle and Dr.Who, the others are 'meh' and I was wondering if there was any other sci-fi that I could sink my teeth into?.

Do you like reading? If so read the Dune series by Frank Herbert, best Sci-fi series I've ever come across. It's a little slow and a lot of it is politics rather than flashy space battles or the like, but the concepts and themes that Herbert presents are amazing, with an unrivaled imagination and originality I've never seen in another sci-fi series.

You can't go wrong with Farscape, that show's one of my all time favorites. And, I'll echo the other smegheads in this thread and recommend Red Dwarf,too.

There was, it was based loosely on the book series in that it was set on Arrakis (the central planet in the Dune series) and you had to mine spice whilst avoiding sandworms and you got to fight off Harkonnens (the bad guys in the first book), but the book series is a lot better.

It depends on what you call sci-fi. If it has to be set in space, then that's been covered, but if it can be present day on this planet, try 4400.

Blake's 7 if you want old guard stuff. Farscape's pretty good, as is Space: above and beyond. Oh, and Red Dwarf up to about season 5-gets pants after that.

I would heavily recommend The Twilight Zone and The X-Files. Also Babylon 5 and for a good long read A Song of Ice and Fire. That is of course operating under the assumption that we are grouping fantasy with sci-fi.

You have an excellent taste there friend, Dune is probably the best sci fi universe created in the 20th century, Arthur C Clarke himself said its the comparable to the lord of rings in terms of grandeur, it influenced sci fi from star wars to battletech and Warhammer 40k\ Starcraft , its dense philosophical\political plot, however, may be to much for most people.

I recommend to you guys out there the anime: Legend of the Galactic heroes, its amazing in terms of scope... tough the animation is a little stiff its the only war drama since War and Peace that truly captivated me to the very end.

Its goal: to entertain sci-fi fans, by creating a show where humans and aliens are given interesting roles. It's a really good show ? entertaining and very interesting ? for nerds, geeks, gamers, and pretty much everyone actually. Humans and aliens, starring in a TV show, running for five seasons? and a 13 episode spin off. It can be an entertaining place, but it's our last best hope for good science fiction TV. This is the story of the last (and only) of the Babylon shows. The year is 1993 through to 1999. The name of the show is Babylon 5.

Yeah, check out Babylon 5. The spin off kinda sucks but the show is fucking awesome.

Failing that you might need to turn to cartoons/anime. Gundam wing, code geaus, cowboy bebop, godanner, and so on.

I was just thinking that if you can put up with Anime being anime there is alot of sci-fi there, but it kinda requires an open mindedness towards anime that some lack.

Trigun is one of my personal favorites in that group i also find Desert Punk to be entertaining on a fart jokes level.

Thinking about it further, some western animate had already been suggested(Futurama) but some others were missing. The old Batman: The Animated Series is pretty damn sci-fi in my opinion, and Emmy award winning. Justice League Unlimited is not bad for the cape and cowl crowd. If one doesn't mind TV-Y7 i used to watch Ben Ten when nothing else was on and enjoyed it.

Again i find myself thinking that unless you were already into things like that, then general sci-fi fans would feel a tad out of place watching it. Heroes, however, did alot to mainstream the superhero fandbase so thinks like Batman TAS and JLU can be appreciated by a larger audience.

The Canadian TV industry works in groups.

There's the "dramatic legal procedural" group, who occasionally cross over with the "actiony drama" group, who sometimes join the "sci-fi group" who are in literally every sci-fi series as per Canadian law.

Prime example: the man who plays the mayor of Vancouver in one series played a bank robber in another, which starred an actor who was in a series called Whistler, which... well, I could go on. Suffice to say half the cast of The Guard has worked together before in Andromeda. Which is another one.

I love Canadian television!. Then again I've only seen MythQuest.

I am definitely checking Sanctuary because it sounds awesome according to wiki.

Rent "Invasion America" and watch it again if you've already seen it. That show was kick ass.
