FPS:
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Bioshock
Borderlands
Orange Box

Far Cry 2 (if you can stand the fact that there's more driving around then actual shooting, it's pretty good)

Also, I see the the OP mentioned Sherlock Holmes. I do hope you're referring to those recent Sherlock Holmes adventure games. Surprisingly engaging those games are.

I mean, what's not to like about a Sherlock vs Cthulhu concept?
Err, perhaps I should have specified. I was referring to "The Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Rose Tatoo." I have seen some of the other newer game and have been thinking about them late at night. My hesitancy is I don't want something overly creepy/bloody.

Well, at the very least then don't buy Sherlock Holmes: Awakened.

You seem to like adventure games, so why not seek out the old Lucasfilm/Lucasarts classics, like Monkey Island, Indiana Jones, etc? This will help you run them: http://www.scummvm.org.

I think that if you want to play a modern RTS game, I suggest Supreme Commander, and Supreme Commander Forged Alliance. They are fun games, and are lots of fun to replay over and over.

Yeah, it seems Portal would be one of your best options. Funny, puzzling, and generally surprising and awesome. The entire Command and Conquer series is great, but Tiberium Wars is definitely the best. Warcraft 3 is an excellent RTS that makes one wonder how Blizzard could have given up strategy for an MMO. Decent storyline, too.
