If you have friends, any Burnout game. It's one of the best half-casual splitscreen series around. If you have none, er... actually, my single-player games are pretty bad. Except Dark Cloud.

SHADOW OF THE MOTHERFUCKING COLOSSUS!

I only recently played it. It's one of the best games ever made. Get it now.

Sadly, it can be difficult to find. But definitely try.
You might have ninja'd me, but in doing so, you forgot to recommend a certain game...

[HEADING=1]Time Splitters: Future Perfect![/HEADING]

Viewtiful Joe 1+2 - a wonderfully awesome side scrolling fighter.

Metal Gear Solid 3 - easily the best in the series. If you want to have some fun times and to learn about what stealth should be in video games (instead of that bullshit, use a gadget at every opportunity, splinter cell stuff), then buy this game.

So, other than the above, it seems like most of the ones I would recommend have been taken. So here is one that is less well know:

Metal Arms: A Glitch In the System - It's quirky and fun TPS, probably up your alley.

Games I'd recommend:

Persona 4
Onimusha 3
Final Fantasy X-2 (Some say it killed FFX's story, but the gameplay is just fantastic!)
Amplitude
Rogue Galaxy
Mad Maestro (be prepared, this is the hardest rhythm game I've ever played)
Grandia II
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone

Def Jam: Fight for NY. An I feel underappreciated title that on the surface is just another hip hop game trying to be cool, but this game about urban street fighting with a cast and crew filled with everyone from Snoop Dogg to Henry Rollins is just fun as hell. Especially considering how it's bargain bin these days, it's so worth checking out.

What kind of game you looking for?
Sandbox title with lots of replay value?
GTA San Andreas (the best investment as far as sandbox games go)
Check out the cheat codes on cheatcc.com Alot of codes that allow just straight up fun.

Psychological horror?
Any Silent Hill game

Survival horror?
Resident Evil Outbreak
Resident Evil Outbreak File 2 (basically an expansion)
The Outbreak series best captures that "survival" feeling better than any game out today.

These are my fav's off the top of my head.

Disgaea 1 + 2
Romance of the 3 Kingdoms 8
Kingdom Heart 1 + 2
Burnout 2 ( best of the series imo )
Shadow of the Colossus
Fahrenheit ( its like Heavy Rain on ps3 but esoteric and sci-fi )
Makai Kingdom
Way of the Samurai 1 + 2

These are my fav's off the top of my head.

Bet you weren't expecting that one? It's a good pick-up-n-play unlike most of the games people are listing that you have to dedicate lots of time and thought to.

Makai Kingdom
No...just....no.

Disgaea, yes, but Makai Kingdom is not a game you recommend to anyone other than Nippon Ichi nuts. I don't mean this in an offensive way to you or anything, but this really is NOT at game you recommend to someone who only "doesn't mind" JRPGs.

Psychonauts (stunning platform adventure, known to any Zero Punctuation fan)
I also say not to this on the grounds that the PS2 version is inferior to the xbox and PC versions.

Sly Cooper and SSX Tricky

Also, while a lot of people are recomending Shadow of the Colosus (and I would too) do know, that while it is a brilliant and unique game, the fact that it is so differant has turned off a lot of players. It has become the default "buy this game" for the PS2, but I know a lot of people who hated it. Don't let it get built up too much before you play it. It is a lot of fun, but it will not change the world for you. :)
