Recommended Computer Build Help

So... I am primarily a console gamer. PS2 begat PS3 begat PS4. That said, I have a computer for stuff that needs it. Marvel Heroes, XCOM2, the odd RTS, Bethesda games.

My old rig died recently, and since I need a computer to do my job, I grabbed a pre-built unit from Fry's and now I am looking to upgrade the parts that need it.

Processor: I-5 6400 2.7 GhZ Quad-Core
Graphics Card: Hamster. No joke. I can hear the poor thing on its wheel.
Memory: 2 TB
RAM: 12 GB
Power Supply: 300 W at 25 C, 260 W at 50 C

Just looking to play Fallout 4 on Medium with minimal frame rate drops. My budget is somewhat lacking, rather keep upgrade costs under $200 if I can.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If that is a latest generation processor (which it seem to be), the important thing to upgrade would be the card. If you are restricted by budget, something like this 960 Nvidia card [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125778&cm_re=nvidia_960-_-14-125-778-_-Product] could work, but for a decent card you will need to upggrade your Power Supply as it is pretty damn low for gaming rig to my consideration. I woudl recommed to shell a little extra cash for a 400W POwer SUpply and a 960, since they are pretty good cards and it will give more lonjevity to the computer.

THe problem is probably with the games that you want to play. Behtesda make huge worlds and are resource hungr game with not great optimization. The recommedned processor form Bethesda themesleves is an i-7 at 3.6 (which is ridiculous, most game run fine in an i-5, although it is not the latest generation) so you might find some issue (that is hard to say, as while your operating frequency is lower, it might be more optimized). Still a new card and a power supply change is what I would recommend, as more GDDR Ram is always ehlpful when rendering game objectes.

Yeah, you need a GPU upgrade. You have a weak power supply, but it should be good enough to run a GTX 750Ti, which is an entry level gaming graphics card. It will be good enough to run Fallout 4 on about medium with okay framerates. If you want more power, or simply something that will last you longer before you need to upgrade again, then you'd want to move up to higher end cards like the R9 380 or 390 or GTX 960 or 970. These cards are much faster than the 750Ti, but will require a new power supply.

You need a new power supply for the better graphics card. 750ti or if you can find one a 760 would be good budget cards. The 9 series cards will be well outside your price range. Also look at your ram go with the matched pair of ram even if you end up going back to 8 gigs.
