Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare Overview

There's no reason this DLC should be this good.

Just wondering Russ but did the lack of ammo during the game give you any real troubles at all? I know they mentioned it during the trailers and in your review but no one has said just how bad the lack of ammo is for it. Still, awesome review and I'm glad to hear that DLC is awesome! :D
It just adds another dimension to the game. You will find ways to find ammo, but you won't be able to use just one type of gun throughout the whole game. If your RDR strategy was "pray and spray," then yeah you might run into trouble.

How many Zombies do we need? It's over. Lame. no matter how well executed it is, its still jumped on the bandwagon long after the mule pulling it died of old age. Get a life, Undead.
Yeah, I have reached that point as well. Zombies have jumped the shark OVER the shark in my opinion. (And I was a fan of the Resident Evil Series until after 4)

Its a great DLC, but it doesn't have the replay value!
I would agree with that. even after coming back as Zombie John, I'm not feeling all that motivated to track down the remaining challenges.

Also, I'm generally sensitive to spoilers, but I'm having a really hard time giving two craps about this one. Sorry guys.

If it makes you feel any better, I held off mentioning anything about how (or not) the zombie plague is cured. But the fact that you can keep playing after you finish as a zombie John Marston? Fair game in my book. That's just plain awesome, and worth mentioning.
The Zombie skin is more of an unlock rather than a spoiler, it doesn't tie into the plot nor does it affect gameplay. You just get it for finishing the campain. I think people just need to relax.

Edit: If anything the zombie skin is a selling point XD

As much I'm starting to see things your way, I really did enjoy the DLC. It's always fun to mess with history and throw in zombies or aliens or something of that nature.

It's unfortunate, really.

I love Rockstar, I do, I love their whore killing ways, their ties with the mafioso, and their want for destruction in cities.

And I'd be lying if I said that I didn't waste my life over GTA2, and all its sequels. Well, at least up to 4 anyway.

However, I feel that RDR didn't really hold anything of value to me. Which is weird - I love open world games, letting me roam and do whatever the hell I want to do, and I'm also a sheep, and follow the crowd with their says of yay or nay.

But RDR was the first (in now many) in which I've found to be completely boring games. I've played to the end and found I was disappointed, in many ways. And it's not because anything was bad, quite the contrary, but nothing I've played blew me away. Perhaps not a fair statement, but each to their own, etc.

When I heard of the DLC for RDR; zombies no less, I thought it'd be more of being confined in a fort and fending off waves of zombies. And while I see that's a part of it, I'm glad to see that Rockstar tried to make it slightly more interesting. Props to them.

Personally I didn't think it was that good. You just run up to a zombie and press R2 or RT to win. Repeat a few thousand times and DLC over. And if too many zombies get close, you just run away to thin them out and then resume pressing R2 or RT to win. It was actually quite repetitive and boring. I didn't realize how much the missions I once called "stupid" (such as herding cattle) were needed to break up the shooting and keep the game interesting; of course, in the main game, you couldn't just run up to all the bad guys and press R2 or RT to win, because you'd have "a hole in your hillbilly head" long before you reached one of them to try it.

I also think the whole "ammo is scarce thing" got overplayed a lot by Rockstar. I don't know about anyone else, but after a few rounds of pressing R2 or RT to win at various locations, I had full ammo for all the guns I cared about using and never had a problem with running out of ammo either. No survival horror for me, I was playing a shooter still. A very easy shooter. I also found it a lot shorter than others have said, I don't know where people were getting the 8 hours they used to say, and now it's 10? I had this done in 5-6, which is good because it was so repetitive.

Overall I found the "Undead Overrun" MP mode to be a lot more fun than the single player part of the DLC. The package as a whole is alright, but not nearly as good as people say it is. Personally if I was going to rant about DLC being awesome, I'd talk about The Lost and Damned for GTA IV. Not this.
So basically you found an overpowered tactic that rockstar didn't think of, and are angry because it made the game too easy? You realize the solution is to simply resolve not to use that tactic right?

Wow, thanks for the spoiler. Too bad you don't "give two craps about this one", because apparantly some of the readers do, judging by the comments.

Exactly my thoughts. When I first heard that there would be a zombie DLC for RDR my initial reaction was one of dispair, as I thought to myself "How will this even work? Why do people feel the need to put zombies in everything? Why take a brilliant game and shoe-horn zombies into it?". I may even have posted on this site to that effect.

Then I played it. And I'm more than happy to put my hand up and be counted as someone whose doubts were totally and utterly unfounded. This has to be one of the best DLCs I've invested in yet, and although on paper it shouldn't work, it really, really does.

Yeah sorry. Good thing nobody ever said we all have to always agree on all things. ;)

If it makes you feel any better, I've got one or two more spoilers on this game I'm holding in reserve.

If there is one thing I hate it's the idea of shooting zombies in the head, did everyone miss REs 1-3? The only gun that hit the face was the magnum. I prefer the idea of "significant damage to the body causes it to shut down again" of course the damage the body takes is more than the average human, but still... Well either way I dislike zombie stuff, no matter how well done it is, or how original it is zombies are just a filler for lack of better foes.
Or you know, shoot the knees and elbows, making the zombies essentially harmless...
But whatever, logic+zombies=no fun, ergo...well, I don't quite know. I'm not a fan of zombies, and this doesn't really seem like a really fitting addon to a really immersive game. Still, if you like it, more power to you...
I don't know about that logic thing, back in the original halo I used to blow the arms off of flood and let them follow me around, I'd have huge packs of the bastards

I'm glad to hear that it's pretty awesome! I was hoping it would be, just more reason for me to want to get the game when I get a next gen system!

Dont get why zombies are singled out as an overused enemie, think people, soldiers, terrorists aliens and mythological/demonic creatures are used way more often
