I just got sick to death of the unnecessary shot little animations that happen and how it takes ages to get anywhere.

Just think about what you have to do to quick travel and all the things he does, like sitting down and putting the fire out, things we don't need to see and serve no other purpose than to slow the game down.

Going by horse is stupid aswell, why not just programme super horses that go flat out all the time unless you only push the stick slightly forward, but no, we have to tap the button rhythmically to make it go top speed constantly.

The whole game had essence of WoW on it, grinding to get things like level 3 hunter or level 4 flower arranging.

Luck based games were luck is derived from how much you bet.

a decent amount of guns ... that for the most part are all identical, with a few stand out rifles, that make the other look like BB guns.

I would have to say the most fun I've had in RDR would be when I tale my awesome looking evil horse, jump onto a train and dead-eye everyone but the girls, then hog tie them and execute them until thier is one left then throw her in front of a train. Also bringing bears and cougars into villages. And Multiplayer.

Mexico is nothing compared to the North. Two words:

Bear hunting.

Few things in that game are as satisfying as making your stand against wave after wave of bears with your Buffalo rifle, only to die after you've skinned your 12th bear because one randomly spawned right behind you.

I love the game purley for it's multiplayer, me and a couple of friends would spend hours on GTA IV until all of our discs broke and then when RDR came out we practicly jizzed our pants......so you can guess that we love it! :L

Until the damned kill two cougars with a melee knife came up.. Shat bricks trying it and nerd raged then let Dave play.. So yeah, only reason he got a handle on the game was the damned cougars!

Aargh cougars. The worst part about that particular hunting challenge was that I had absolutely no idea where to find cougars in the first place. One thing that never gets old though is punching packs of wolves to death. If you haven't tried it yet, do it now!

There's so much to do in it...but...why do any of it? You can spend ages hunting animals for skin to sell for cash. You can spen ages gambling or killing...but...why? What does that money give you? Guns? You get them all on missions and plenty of ammo for free. Horses? There are three horses which blow the rest out of the water stat wise which you can go off to find for free.

You're clearly not able to handle the responsibility of playing a sandbox. You need to get rewarded for all the things it lets you do? It has to have some purpose?

You're doing all that for fun. Not for petty unlocks or rewards. It's just to have fun. It doesn't need a purpose. That's why you're doing it.

What is this responsibility you assume I can't handle? I assure you...I simply just didn't find anything in the game fun enough to do for its own sake.

Even if it is a sandbox, you still need an obligation to try all the things on offer. Doing them for their own sake doesn't cut it. Imagine an FPS where, instead of a mission or goal, you just run from one end of a tunnel shooting down intermitment bad guys. Instead of playing to advance somehow, your playing for the sake of it. That FPS could have the most fantastic control ever, but without an obligation it would quickly become boring.

It doesn't help that playing virtual poker or arm-wrestling isn't all that fun in the first place. Nor did I find hunting cougars, skinning them, galloping back to Blackwater, and selling their hides fun either. A game can pack its sandbox with all the activities imagineable, but unless they mesh together for a cohesive experience, it matters for little.

Don't get me wrong, I quite liked RDR. The characters were interesting and the enviroment was beautiful. I just couldn't enjoy plodding aroun hunting for herbs, skinning animals, playing bar games, collecting money, breaking horses, or any of the other superfluous side-things the game inclued. I just went through the missions, and even that out of anticipation of the next cut-scene, rather than the actual joy of play.

It just didn't click with me, and the above are the reasons why.
