Basically, RED is an action movie. There is no other way to put it. But it has a lot of moments where you kind've look to the person you're watching it with(or yourself) and laugh. It isn't a HAHAHAHA that's the funniest thing ever laugh, but it's nice. The closest movie I can compare this to, would be Burn After Reading. RED is longer, and has more action but basically they have the same principles. So for the plot of RED;
RED(Retired Extremely Dangerous) is a movie about agents in Special Operations that have retired, but have been put on a hit list. Essentially, that means they have to find who wants to kill them and exact sweet revenge on them. Frank Moses(Bruce Willis) is the "main" character but others come in later of course. He is your average person really, until you see he has no family, no Christmas decorations, and is in a "long-distance relationship". Poor Frank. At first it seems like this movie is going to turn into a romantic action(which we obviously need more of) but soon the action starts. And wow, it hits you hard. The weapons are modern(corner shot anyone?) and I think the bad guys need a honorable mention in this review. They are some of the most lovable characters. Sure, they don't talk but at least they arn't deranged old people.
She seems to have a fault to her character though. How I saw her character was as a lonely girl who is going on blind dates, and reads romance novels about adventure, but at the end of the day feeds her cat, Snugglepuss, and goes to bed. But soon she doesn't even care that people are literally being blown up beside her! Or that she has been drugged and in car wrecks. The characters don't evolve at all. What you see in the begining is the same as what you will see in the end. Well in the end they may be crazier, but they are characters and not living beings.
On the mention of car wrecks, the greatest moment of the movie was put into the commercial. Why do movies do this. When you see it, you're like, " Wow that was so amazing!" but it's in the commercial! Yes, it made me watch the movie, but it was the greatest moment and I would've rather had it as a surprise.
But like any action movie, it has it's "one liners" that you will be saying to your friends(or yourself) for some time. Mostly seeing John Malkovich walk around with a pig, while he pets it and seems to be purring.
The background for most of the scenes is amazing! Just seeing the great places that they filmed is enough to see this movie. From tropical islands, to great cities to the inside of the CIA. Whoever had worked on the setting of this movie deserves to be applauded.
Yes, that is a crossbow. But didn't you look behind him?
Special effects are exactly what you would think they are. Amazing. Even for a modern film they deserve praise. The explosions are numerous and beautiful! Just seeing people blow up brings a tear to my eye.
It has it's action, it's actors, and it's memorable moments, and it's special effects. Sadly it lacks in evolving the characters and more non-memorable moments than memorable ones.
