Red ring

I recently got red ring. So I took it apart, and removed the x clamps and all that good stuff. So it was working for about a week until I got it again, does any one have suggestions on how to fix it?

I had a Red Ring awhile back. I let it sit for a week, and then it started to work again. After a day, it died for good. I couldn't send mine back because I voided the warranty the day I got it (the disk drive was not attached inside, and I didn't want to send it in.) I got another one after the Red Ring. I suggest you do the same. I feel that that is your only option for a long lasting fix. You already have the excessories, so all you need is the cheap arcade model.

Apparently if you don't mind doing it manually, i know how to make it so it doesent overheat and break any of the chipsets. This would void your warranty though.

He already said he doesn't HAVE a warranty, so just post it.

Get to your local game shop or 2-used and ask if they can repair it, if yes give them your box and their fee, if no keep looking and asking.

Damn, if your Xbox is no longer under warranty then buying a new one is all you can really do. All of the towel tricks are pretty much temporary(very few exceptions). Sucks to be you man.

Ok, open up your xbox, there should be an X shaped object, which looks like its wrapped in aluminium foil. On closer inspection it is actually two X's on top of eachother, get a nice thick washer and place it inbetween these two X's by gently removing the top X (if necessary the parts it connects), the Xbox will no longer overheat.

Which chipset model does this work for?

just send it off to Microsoft, maybe? yeah maybe its quicker if you do it yourself but at least your (nearly) guaranteed to get it back working right

The 360 towel trick isn't a permanent fix though, it only delays it. Which works well if you have a secondary Xbox 360 while your primary one is getting fixed.

honestly if your stuck in a hole like this a Microsoft have fucked you with the warranty like they did me just go buy a more reliable console, or buy another Xbox 360, try the elite or the ps3, their both more reliable

The fix for the RROD is simple, albeit somewhat time consuming. First, you take it apart(be sure to use a hair dryer on the MS holo-sticker if you don't wanna void) and remove the X-clamps, remove the heatsinks, clean the chips, apply good thermal paste(arctic silver) and then bolt the heatsinks down without the clamps.

If that fails you escalate to the next phase, which while even more time consuming is guaranteed to work and is dead simple. First, take your system apart. Next go out to Gamestop or Walmart and buy a 360(new or used, you choose). Now take that new 360 apart(take care to hair dry the MS holo so you don't mangle it) and set it aside. Grab your busted 360 guts and bolt them into the new 360 shell. Now take the new 360 guts and bolt them into your old shell(this is to make the serials on the outside match).

Now, just take the 360 you bought, which now has your busted guts in it, back and get a full refund. The only caveat is if your old system doesn't have HDMI and the new one does, as the shells won't match up. In that case you have to very carefully remove the serial decals and swap them around. Just use a hair dryer and a knife to pry it off without damaging it.

Sure, this method is devious and probably not entirely legal...but, fuck I want my system fixed now, not a month from now after I mail it in!

It's like giving a bad dog a milkbone rather than a whack on the nose after he chews up your favorite shoes.

Only one 360ing friend of mine got the RROD (though twice) but after it died for good he sold his 360 games & accessories and moved on. Said he just couldn't buy another one on principle.
