So what he saying is that motion controls will only be accepted once we have no choice but to use them.

Yeah. Fuck that.

So if they force shit on us that we don't like we will start liking it?

I don't think so.

If I wanted to physically exert myself, I'd go outside damn it!

Actually I can't really get upset about the whole motion control gimmick, as I don't play console games and nobody is really trying to saddle the PC with motion controls - for one thing, the strictures of the platform somewhat precludes those being a plausible addition, given the typical usage scenario is sitting down in a chair at a desk (rather than lounging on a couch in front of a television in your living room or what have you).

Which is great, because I perceive motion controls as an odious gimmick that dilute gamer agency by increasing the input required and abstracting it in ways that make it possible to fail to execute maneuvers you have in fact executed thanks to the inherent imprecision of motion controls versus pressing a damn button. Casual gamers perceive waggling controllers (or just their body) around as more intuitive, and to a certain extent they have a point, as we already know how to move our bodies around to interact with objects like wheels or whatnot - the problem is there isn't actually a physical object to interact with, and thus the possibility of turning that wheel wrong arises, as the system might decide your circular motion wasn't the correct one.

To hell with that!

So because the core gaming community dismisses motion controls they're going to make everything have motion controls so we have to use them or not continue gaming?

Because motion controls work SO well at the moment.

And are applicable to SO many things.

And don't discriminate against anyone.

And...Nah...rubbish idea.

He said that of all the problems that had plagued Red Steel 2, one of the biggest was that the majority of people were unwilling to engage in physical activity to play a videogame.
Funny, I'd have said the biggest problems were the story and characters were underdeveloped, the voice acting was awful, the Western genre is in its death throes and it was on the Wii.

But yeah, people are never willing to engage in physical activity to play a videogame.

Oh wait...
# Wii Sports (66.19 million)
# Wii Play (27.38 million)
# Wii Fit (22.61 million)

So...yeah...Ubisoft...1 year left.

Look, implement motion controls in games where it makes sense to use them.
And give players the option to play sans waggling.
That way everybody will be happy.

But to build entire games around the concept of swinging a thingy, or to shoehorn said thingy-swinging [this is getting mildly obscene] into something it has no business being in is just going to piss people off.

Bored house wives like motion controls...

I really hate this whole trend, it better go away soon.

I'm trying to think of certain games with motions controls...

God...fighting games would be disgusting (smash bro's doesn't count)

Motion controls could possibly become the norm. Considering the casual audience is way bigger than the hardcore audience and swaying investors usually don't drop money into markets that cater to small markets. A future where motion controls could become the standard is highly likely right now but that all depends on what the casual market does this year when motion controls come to the Xbox 360 and PS3. Unfortunately, my fellow hardcore gamers that means the future of gaming is no longer in our hands, but in the hands of the casual audience and no one here can truly predict what will happen when the Move and Kinect hit the streets.

*After the time lapses of me head desking my keyboard until bloody, and wipe the keys clean* Maybe core gamers would play with motion controls if the games were released for core gamers. I have had my wii for over 2 years I own 5 count em 5 games for it. 3 of which came out of walmart's liquidate bin.(spent weeks casually browsing for no more heroes, where do I find it? not in the rack behind the glass, but under a copy of chicken shoot for the same price in a bin)

Wii controls are often terribly bad I haven't invested in motion plus because I don't feel the need to pay money to fix what I was assured was perfect when I bought the thing.

Motion control game developers avoid the core audience like the plague releasing the millions of e for everyone titles that stagnate on store shelves. What is the core gamer/ buyer age? I thought the stats said its was 30 something and male. Yet for every RS2, or NMH there are 50 zak and wikis, wii massage, wii talk to the plants, wii watch paint dry etc.

They think we are lazy, but if the thing would work as advertised and wasn't a kiddy gimmick factory we would gladly play with the motion controls. Instead all that is used is the shake controls so why bother in the first place.

These controls are in their infancy and until they grow up and work to a high standard Ill be damned if they are allowed to be the control mechanism for any serious game.

Wow this guy's delusional. "People will only use motion controls when they're the only option" (paraphrasing.) That's probably the only sane point in this article.

And the only reason that the Wii has so many sales is it's "family friendly" appeal. Motion controls don't appeal to casual gamers: developers have been led to think that they do. The Wii's success rode on the fact that it was able to create stupidly simple and brightly coloured games, and then told parents "see, your kid's being active, buy it!" If Microsoft supplied a treadmill with every 360, and released a bunch of real-world grounded games that stopped you every half an hour and then require you run 1 k before playing again, it'd have a similar effect.
