I'm sure that there is at least a few people here who have read these books. I've always liked them for their rather brutal action, despite being labeled children's novels. I was just wondering what other people thought of the series, since I just finished reading The Long Patrol (my favourite one).

So what do you think of the long running Redwall series.

Been a long time since I read it, but I remember loving it as a teenager.

Was really quite action packed for a story about cuddly little animals.

I also remember the badgers being totally bad-arse. I wanted to grow up to be a badger.

I liked them. They were a little derivative, and I was eventually turned off by the stereotyping of the animals. Why should rats be evil and mice good? Isn't that a little arbitrary?

In any case, they were enjoyable enough, good for long car rides and boring evenings.

My brother is still somewhat obsessed with the name Clunie.

I will always remember the series fondly.

Read one Redwall book, you've read them all. Jacques not only wrote the books the same way, but he made it so the same events just around always happen.

My favorite is probably Martin the Warrior, more for its ending.

i loved these books, i often fantasized about making a MMO out of it; i thought it would be pretty cool.

then WoW came out and ruined everything.

Yeah, I agree that the later novels are nowhere near as good as the first few. They just seemed to start rehashing the old stories with slightly different names and villains.

Yeah, we get it, all badgers are killers. Brocktree had the whole blood rage thing which made him unique, but then all Badgers suddenly are able to go into a blood rage, turning into fuzzy little killing machines.

I enjoy the Long Patrol too :D

OT: I think it is a great series. My Dad used to read them to me when I was a kid and I still read them. I plan on reading them with my Nephew someday.

its possibly one of the greater series written for its age ggroup, but also byeond its age group. I'd read it to my kids, or most likely will when/if i have them. Rakkety Tam is still my favorite book all time.

It's been awhile since I've read them, but I loved the books. My brother and I read them together... he liked the moles, I loved badgers and hares.

So I suppose it makes perfect sense that my favorite books are 'The Long Patrol' and 'Salamandastron'.

yeah, those books were pretty great. I have quite a few, my room mate has the graphic novel version of Redwall, and I even watched the cartoon they had out on PBS for a while. It handled my late elementary/junior high bloodlust quite well despite the repetitiveness of the plots. oh, and the otters and shrews were pretty amazing!

I loved it, I stopped reading them after the one with the rabbit in the wheelchair (Didn't like it) But The Taggerung, Lord Brocktree and Outcast of Redwall (love the badgers) were amazing.

Read a bunch but eventually they got a little predictable, after reading the seventh one I just started picking up on the formula and got a little bored.
