Name a time you used a reference that you only would get but used it anywas because it fit perfectly with the moment.

mine was pretty recent and actullay surprised me she didn't get it, I was texting this girl she writes "soo.." ( its not going to get anymore intellegint) I wrote back "ok you caught me I was the one at the grassy knole you got me" she says "wat?" (exact word(s) making me wonder why I'm talking to her) I can't understand how she did not get it!

has anyone been in a sitation where you use a reference and it just goes over someones or a group of peoples head?

If so share your story, we won't laugh [sub] much [/sub]

I constantly say things are "Funzo", from that episode of The Simpsons. You know what I mean.

I have a few /b/tards in my 7th period class who throw memes out there left and right. Nobody gets them.

I also tend to quote the "It's Mahvel, Baybee" video a lot. Particularly "FUCK THE KNICKS!"
Nobody gets that either.

Can I list times when I was the only one in a classroom to get a reference a cool teacher made? I'll do that anyway...

A substitute teacher was doing role call and somebody wasn't there, they said the name twice, then immediately switched to saying "Bueler? Bueler?" After an odd silence, he asked if anyone got it, I raised my hand and said yes but no one else did QQ

I just watched Highlander with my dad again this weekend, so I'll probably be quoting that when I get back to school. (If, at this rate with the snow.)

THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE-!!!

This one time when I was at a party, I made a drunken reference to Citizen Kane: when I dropped my glass, I said "rosebud."

...and all around me, everyone said "OH! The Sims!" Apparently, I was the only film student there.

[small]FYI, "rosebud" is used as a infinite money cheat code in The Sims: It's also a very famous quote from Citizen Kane.[/small]

BOX!! Yeah only me and about four other people get this. This came about from some events a couple of summers ago while we were all doing research at our college.

I once quoted Solid Snake when confronted with a friend of a friend who, due to our mutual friend's gushing about a particular performance of mine, believed me to be the most insanely skilled person ever to put fingers to piano keys:
"Sorry, the real me is no match for the legend".
Wasted on them.

My friends ask me what my religion is a lot. (Bad memory?)
I always reply "I worship the great fire beast."
Its a joke that they don't get, and 90% of YOU probably don't get it.

not exactly a reference but, when I was watching 10.00 AD in a theater, I saw the most modern civilization looking at a map, which had islands drawn to the west of Gibraltar (Hercules Gates), so I said in loud voice "oh, they are for atlantis"..... I suddendly notice several people, my friend included, watching me trying to understand how did I figure that out (Plato's Diologues are clear about that).

At one point I used the infamous "THIS.IS.SPARTA" in front of my girlfriend. She never saw the movie nor does she frequent internet forum so she never even heard of it. Ah, awkward times :)

This happens to me a lot with other things, especially in my History class. My teacher is always bringing up something from the 60s and everyone else is clueless I normally know what he is talking about, but I stay silent mostly.

I do that nearly every day, but I have an atrocious memory so I don't recall any of the notable times.
...I apologize.

I work at a vet, and often fill medications. Quite often when I bring them up, I announce "Pills here!" Nobody ever laughs...

(L4D reference)

I swear, if I EVER work in a Pharmacy, I'm stealing that.

Anyway, I had a habit of referencing the "Star Wars Shortened" that was on Sky One a few years ago. I remember a bunch of us were watching Jaws, and when it appeared I yelled "Look! Scary Fish!" in a high pitched voice. Some were amused, other's weren't.

It's always fun listening to the people who say CoD4 is more comp worthy than TF2 (not ProMod, just Vanilla CoD4), having "Spy Sappin' my Sentry" as a message tone on my phone leaves a lot of people scratching their heads
