I'm not sure about you chaps/chappesses, but I have somewhat mixed feelings about historical fiction. Granted, I may have too great a demand for historical accuracy in such a genre so if it's done well, I thoroughly enjoy it but if not done well... suffice to say I run the risk of a stroke.
Still, that's not the point. What's probably a 'safer' literary route is the retelling of the same story (i.e. the events and the characters involved) in a different setting (with different names, and the inevitable changes made for dramatic licence). So, I'm wondering whether it's better as sci-fi or fantasy?
