Right, first off I apologise if this thread has been made before, but recently I've actually decided to try this new up and coming game, Minecraft. And I can't say I'm at all disappointed...

This is exactly how a sandbox game should be. Admittedly, it's a little basic, but I've always said a good game doesn't need good graphics. I honestly would not be surprised if games in the future, were made in this style.

My main question though, is for those who've tried it, what do you think of it?
And for those who havent yet, why haven't you tried it? ;p

I love MineCraft, but I'm a little angry at it. Weeks before it did it's update (The update of the campaign where you can actually mine and build things) I had worked on a mansion for at least a week. And when it updated, I lost my save file of it, AND was denied the ability to rebuild and save it unless I payed them.

It shows what you can do with a game when you put processing power into something besides graphics.

It does more with itself then AAA games farted out by the big publishers.

Its an actual sandbox, including the sand, that you can dig in, build on, and basically do whatever you want. Its astounding really. And anyone who just passes it up just because of its graphics needs to be smacked.

Considering its still in its Alpha testing stages, yes it is limited right now, but there's still SO MUCH you can do with it for kicks, imagine what it'll be like when its done XD And as an online product there could be many more updates and modifications made for it too.

EXACTLY this. There's so much concentration on Graphics these days, its nice to see people going back to basics.

This might just be the game that forces me to create an online bank account. As long as the sandbox is bundled with the "real" game, I will be content. I've got a star destroyer to build!

EDIT: I rescind this post on the basis that Graham Stark himself has, in fact, handed me my own ass.

I think the fact that the developer is making upwards of $500,000 a DAY speaks for itself.

No, there is no error in that number.
Yes there is.
He made approx $300,000 in a day. In one day, where 26,000 people bought it.
He does not make that amount every day.

Sorry, people keep telling me that.

He does very, very well. But not that well.

I keep being told about this game in PM's, but... I don't have enough free time to do the things I even want to do on my own. :(

I haven't yet because. I'm not sure if I'll be able to escape the time-sink nature of the game. I already play the free version for an hour at a time. I do not want to start playing and then 6 hours later finally looking up at my clock and going, "FUCK! I have homework!"

I'm a little pissed at it right now quite frankly. I was playing last night and was going down from my castle to a mining shack. It was broad daylight out, so I opened the door, went inside and went to my storage chest to unload some items. As I was doing that I heard a small hiss, then the entire shack exploded. I hate creepers. Wouldn't have been so bad, but I had all my diamond tools and most of my iron and coal on me when it happened. After dying I got back to the shack in time so it was all still laying there, but my storage chest also exploded, so I ended up picking up everything that wasn't important, IE blocks of dirt and cobblestone and nothing important and all the tools disappeared by the time I had made room for them.

Still, I love the game. It's amazingly addictive, and it's fun building and exploring. It's like being provided with a billion legos and being told to do what you want. The graphics don't bother me in the least, simple is nice, and I'm sure the fact that I started gaming with NES makes me far more forgiving. But considering how fun it is to play, I'd be amazed if someone couldn't get into just because of the simple graphics. They just need to ax the damn creepers.

I was constantly getting told he made 1/4 of a mil every day.. But I mean c'mon, I can see Minecraft easily becoming the basis for alot of sandboxs in the future.. It's done what alot of games nowadays fail to do, and that's give the player complete control. The graphics are occasionally a set back, but with such control, the only set back is your imagation.
