1. Star Fox is not overly positive, read above.
2. It's not girly nor a kids show
3. It's not referenced often
4. I rarely see any quotes from it except barrel roll and that is a very rare sight indeed
1) From your description it sounds like it's trying to be tragically grimdark, despite being a game about anthro-animals in spaceships. (Although everyone knows it's basically just about shooting stuff with your spaceship while an annoying frog-boy shouts annoying things at you.

)
2) But it's a boyish game for kids.
3) DO A BARREL ROLL!
4) They were terribly common around the time when Star Fox Command was released, I believe.

1. The animation looks like any 5 year old could do better in Adobe Flash
2. The characters are all generic, and have been done before and BETTER
3. There is little to no conflict. At least from what I've seen, the closest thing to conflict they've ever gotten is who gets a fucking ticket to some show.
4. The only relate-able characters are the misanthrope and the shy one. Just. Wow.
1) First of all, your hyperbole doesn't help your argument. Secondly, you might think the animation is very barebones from a quick look at it, but anyone who's actually watched the whole show can tell you that (despite the simplistic style) a lot of work has been put into it, with plenty of quirky character animations that are only used once or twice throughout the series.
2)
Twilight Sparkle is a bookish introvert and (despite being magically talented) a strong skeptic. Not used to having friends, she doesn't always know how to handle situations that come up, and things easily get awkward. That said, she's very organized and possesses some leadership qualities.
Rainbow Dash is a cocky and competitive tomboy. She's an athlete dreaming of joining her idols in a group of aerial performers. Behind the brash exterior, though, Rainbow hides performance anxieties brought on by being bullied in her youth.
Apple-- No, wait, actually... this post is getting long enough without me describing the rest of the ponies too.
3) As has been pointed out, the series is mostly slice-of-life, meaning that most conflicts will be social ones between the different cast members. That said, they do fight a manticore, an evil space princess, a dragon, a hydra, a swarm of town-eating insects, and a cockatrice. The show rather elegantly deals with racism, and one episode deals with both loyalty (keeping secrets) and honesty (letting your friends know your feelings) simultaneously.
4) Personally I find all of the "mane cast" to be very easy to relate to. Even Rarity, despite her whole "fashion designer" thing that I wouldn't give two shits about otherwise. It seems every brony has a "best pony" chosen, but between the Mane 6 and the Cutie Mark Crusaders I couldn't possibly pick a favorite for myself.
