Relationship Titles - a discussion

I have been having some relationship problems, which has led me to a topic for discussion here...i wont go into detail about my problem because it's a long story, all im going to offer up is that we have a difference of opinion right now

is a relationship title important to you? for example "you are officially my girlfriend/boyfriend *puts relationship on facebook*" and do you like it to be advertised?

would it also lead you to have a girlfriend/boyfriend for the sake of having a girlfriend/boyfriend - just for the title and to fit in?

what are the escapists thoughts and feelings on this subject?

I think people are overthinking this way too much. It's just linguistics and however interesting language is, I believe it shouldn't dictace what kind of relationship you have.

That said, I do not have Facebook and I call my girlfriend my girlfriend to anyone who wants to know.

When I dated my 'girlfriend' we never had the titles 'boyfriend and girlfriend' nor were we 'facebook official' because both of that stuff seemed too childish and immature to us :S

We chose not to be branded and if I had that opportunity again I'd probably do things the same way.

Some people look to date solely for the title, IE: Me, cause I'm sick of peoples shit.

I can't see really the point in being in a relationship just to advertise it.
But that may be because I go out of my way to hide in IRL that I am dating a guy.
