I love listening to the sound of rain before i go to sleep (Theres plenty of that here lately in the North of England...) Anyway ive found a few videos and mp3s that help me fall asleep in the night (they are also great if you suffer from Tinnitus!)

Above is a video i truly love, helps me think, relax, study, draw and sleep. I would love that video as a high quality mp3 but when i use the converters on the net it loses quality and sounds horrible. *sigh* Anyway, anyone got their own personal relaxing sound? Like the hum of a heater, splash of the ocean etc

Not a sound as such, but a song.

It calms me down and also helps me chill out.

I live in an area that's usually raining, and I associate that with relaxing / sleep aids.

That, or a bit of jazz.

Hmm...well, there's a number of natural noises I like (wind and rain foremost, though ocean surf is great, too). I'm also a very big fan of smooth jazz. From the soundtracks of the games I review, I find the most calming pieces to be <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ik3L80NwX2k>Mayu's theme from Little My Maid and "<url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PSfz_60XcQ>To the World of Dreams" from A Drug That Makes You Dream.

Oh...and there's also something else.

I really wish I could upload the actual video for this scene (from an H-game called "Hard Love Life"). I just love the meadow wind sound...

Thank you for that, incidentally. You're right, it is pleasant...

Have you tried searching for white noise generators and mp3s?

The sound of a fan blowing. Helps me sleep. Even in the cold of winter, I use a fan.

I play this whenever I need to sleep.
In terms of a sound, I find rain and creeks relaxing

Yeah i have, ive found alot of whitenoise gens but the mp3s are low quality and you can here the degrading sound with headphones on. Its hard to find an hour long HQ mp3 of rain or other relaxing sounds of nature.. well, free ones at least.

I use the Ambience application and plug my iphone into my surround system, which coincidently surrounds my bed...

It's a great app which let's you download (free), lots of high quality audio sounds from rain to thunderstorms, camp fires, rare birds, jackhammers, binaural waves, White noise etc etc. My personal favourite is the rainforest one... It's crazy, really makes you feel like you're sat in a jungle...

Of all the apps in the AppStore, this one of those actually worth payin the £1 for...

Relaxing sounds... Metal. From symphonic to the power screaming incomprehensible type. Oddly calming..

This song sounds like heavy metal, but listen closer and it's actually really relaxing. I use it to sleep.
Really? The first time I heard that track, I thought it was crushing and depressing. Not relaxing.

I love the sound of wind (*childish snicker*). Especially when I'm snug in bed and the house is taking a thrashing. I also like being in strong winds. It cheers me up no end, to get blown (*snicker*) about as I walk.

Yes, come to think of it, I can't see how it could be true white noise if it had lossy compression. Can also see why you would want something natural sounding.

I like listening to ambient music now and again enjoy Aphex Twin's Ambient Works, Vol. II or Bioshpere's Substrata. If I want to listen to something that will help me block things out and think without falling into a coma there is always Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart.

Actually, try this: http://deletedscenesforgottendreams.blogspot.com/2008/12/inverz-songs.html
