I have an entire playlist on iTunes called "Sleepytime" just for that purpose. It includes

Sia, Coldplay, Aqualung, Damien Rice, Elbow, Norah Jones, A Fine Frenzy, Nick Drake, Ray LaMontagne, Snow Patrol, William Elliott Whitmore, Jack Johnson... and a couple more. The list currently has 64 songs and is always growing. As far as relaxing goes... well, do I need to take a nap, or have a good cry? I have different relaxing music depending on what mood I want to put myself in. I'm always up for suggestions.

Most of my collection is pretty mellow, but my favorite relaxing bands are Andrew Bird, Belle & Sebastian, Apostle of Hustle, Bedroom Wall, Beirut, some Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Jeffrey Lewis, and Sigur Ros.

I'll have to try listening to Porcupine Tree and Liquid Tension Experiment next time I need some relaxation. Still, you've got a good taste in music.

I think I'd prefer Radiohead for my "relaxing" music. "No Surprises" is the perfect song for those times when I just want to cry myself to sleep.

Also, the perfect video-game related video to unwind to. [http://www.giantbomb.com/news/laid-back-video-of-the-week/465/]

Certain Massive Attack songs do the job nicely. Usually, I prefer a good Flute Concerto.

I just listen to NPR, it helps me sleep.
I'm not joking.
That's why I can't listen to NPR while driving, especially if I'm already a bit tired.

Incidentally, a baseball game on TV can lull me to sleep like nothing else. I love baseball, I really do, but unless I'm heavily invested in the game (say, playoffs), then I'll be asleep before the 4th inning.

I usually chill out with Deep Forest and Tool; there are, however, other particular songs:

Death Cab For Cutie: Title and Registration
Radiohead: How to Disappear Completely
Live: Lightning Crashes

That's less than a quarter of the bands I listen to. Most of the rest are in various sub-genres of heavy metal, so they don't quite fit this thread.

I'm not sure if Opeth really fit this thread. I mean, you could fall asleep in one section then get woken up by a massive shift in dynamics and tempo. It would be like..

*Nice harmony*
"This is nice I might nod off"
*Pretty jazz solo*
"Zzzzz"
*Brutal screaming, shreading and double kick*
"Ohshit!"
*Nice harmony*
"This is nice..."
