I have been trying in vain to discover reliable 'Make your own game' software and I now turn to The Escapist for help. I need reliable software, any genre will do, I'd prefer software that doesn't require in-depth knowledge of code but either is fine. If anyone knows of any sites that offer the basics of code those would also be much appreciated.

They must also be Virus free.

You're probably going to hear 'notepad' awfuly soon.
With the sage advice to learn a programming language attached.

Unfortunately, the most reliable stuff costs a pretty penny. If you're on a budget, I'd recommend Game Maker 7.0, since it's free, plus it doesn't really require knowledge of code all too much.

Well, XNA is all I can think of at the moment.

Sorry, I'm a tad bit oblivious to game designing programs.

What kind of game do you have in mind? There are some genre-specific toolkits out there, though the realist answer to your question is, as was stated above, "notepad."

Is there a particular site where I could learn said code? Or should I just head over to Borders and start reading in the '...for Dummies' section.

Notepad? Sorry, but it was expected.

Not sure about how ready you are to get into programming, but Python is about as simplistic as any actual programming language gets. Plus, you can get a compiler for free, so...

Would you ever tell someone to NOT learn a programming language? Suggesting something like "Game Maker" is like suggesting an easy bake oven for someone that wants to make a good cake.

Game Maker 7.0, the interface is easy enough, there is a wealth of information about it, and it is also fairly robust (except when it comes to 3D).

Don't knock it. Dispite a rather simplistic sounding name its a solid foothole in computer logic and programming in general.

I use a program myself called "RPG Maker VX" which requires no coding knowledge to make a game. You will need to know the functions of scripts but you won't actually make them. You really just fill in the blank.

I can help you out with the program should you have any questions. Here's the site:

http://tkool.jp/products/rpgvx/eng/download.html

You do have a 30 day trial and then must buy the software. But I found a virus free keygen to get around the trial if you don't want to spend the dough.

If you'd like to play my game:

My family has nothing in the way of money so I could just do the trial version.

Terribly sorry, but I remember the likes of "FPS Creator" and "RPG Maker" and just get knots in my stomach.

Well you can use the keygen, which is also virus free and get rid of the trial box, making the software free.
Well....PM me with that keygen. I'll try your game out too.

Game Maker 7.0 It is free, and a easy way to make some basic puzzle or platformers. I think you can make some FPS's with it, too.
I tried downloading it but it didn't work. Do you have a link? I want to make sure I'm on the right site.

You'll need a Windows PC (a Mac version is coming out next year) with XP or Vista though.

That's exactly where I went and it wouldn't download, I'm using Vista by the way.
