You could always go the free route and get digital sex via ChatRoulette. No guarantee that the person will be female, though.

Endlessly entertaining read, as always (especially the bit about Richard Garriott).

Oh marion, if you look anything like your avatar there, I don't see why you have trouble getting dates!

Tall, blond, HUGE rack and... wait... you're the DUDE?!

Not going there, no I'm not.

For any less than 1500 LS.

This is true, in WoW I've had a few people empty their life stories onto me. Most are a lot worse than mine! Makes me feel more grateful. Didn't charge them though, I mean how harsh can you get?

Even though this was written for comedic purposes, it's sad to say that everyone's first encounter with SL will be different, and something like this probably has already happened to many people!

Despite the twisted weirdness that SL is known for, there are some pretty cool things AND people there that you just have to look for. It's just sad that the weirdness heavily outweighs the cool =\

I guess that's what happens when you add freedom to do whatever + anonymous... Alot of the time you'll see things that you probably will never unsee even if you were to go blind and lose your entire memory..

I'm amazed week after week that people still post on here saying Marion is lying, people obviously haven't read all of the articles! Liberal with reality would be a vast understatement.

Anyway I think Reliable Source is the funniest column running at present; keep up the good work Mr. Cox!

When I was little... like 14, stupid, and not knowing that I should be capitalized, I tried second life. I was on an incredibly slow laptop then so after a couple hours I quit because flying around at 1fps isn't what I'd call fun. There was an alternative I tried back then, though, that was free, and had a great community. Kaneva. I don't know if it's up still and I long quit in my search to quench my virtual bloodlust of the time now knowing that talking to people and customizing a house could be fun too, but if I was looking for a place to hang out, I'd definitely revisit Kaneva. Also, Moove seemed like a good engine-- more open ended, less user friendly of course, and well... I didn't get a chance to know the community in the hour I played (See: Framelag.)

Honestly, man, I've had my fair share or problems as of late too. Life's a ***** with a barbed whip sometimes. Where I've been with my problems, personally, is, aside from msn contacts, the Complaints Thread on my local writers forum. It seems that most F2P MMO Communities aren't really... friendly.

I tried playing Second Life once after being told it was the biggest thing to ever hit the internet. I realised quickly that this was in fact a lie.

However I wouldnt be quick to dismiss the MMO "social" game scene completely. Theres quite a few out there which arent completely filled with cyber-sex crazed guys and cyber-sex crazed guys pretending to be women. Im scared to name some for fear of sparking an arguement but I promise you they do exist! :p

My first date after my last long term relationship saw me calling the girl by my ex's name several times during the night, at least you spent yours talking about something cool! :D

I'm never sure what to call these articles... Is it Gonzo journalism? I'm not very certain of the exact definitions of it, but it kinda could be.

Well second life in itself is not really a game. Its a platform, a developement tool. Sure its filled with wierdos and odd fetishes you would rather not know about but thats just the human race at its "finest", but eh, which community is not?:p

For quite soem many people SL is nice source of bits of money. When someone spent years on game modding they usually know how tow ork with textures, or even 3d graphics, and in SL opposite to just modding sites, they can get real cash for making few, good lookig things.
What others later do with those its not the creators problem.

And as for life problems. Bah, just have fun isntead, life's too short to bother with all those existentional junk! ^^

what i know about Second Life, is that many people in the REAL world gain REAL money out of this reallife simulation!

cause you can change the money currency of the game into real bucks!

btw: your story was funny as a B rated movie !!! (it's a compliment)

Try it! Go up to someone and say, "As a journalist, I would just like to say that your shoe is untied."
I'm tempted to do this, now.
If anything the reaction will be hilarious, and you know they will look too!

as a journalist, this article was pretty great... maybe its not 100% real, but i guess this is a way for mr. cox (and yes i am making fun of the name) to share whats going on with him, without paying the 12 dollars, so as long as its a blast to read, why the hell not?

im not a journalist

I spent some time in Second life but decided to stop after the first reputable person I met told me I could get a Ferrari if I spent two weeks in a butt plug factory. Never again!
