Just for giggles the other day I asked a friend a question. "If you were making 20000 Leagues Under the Sea today, who would you cast in it?" And it was interesting enough figuring out who we thought had the acting chops and presence to play the major roles, perhaps best exemplified by our consideration of whether Danny Glover, Helena Bonham Carter, or Mark Harmon would make for a better Nemo. But between the two of us we only know so many thespians in so many roles, and I want to see this expand beyond what two people can conceptualize.

So I thought that today, Escapists, I would put the question to you. If you were remaking the movie of your choice today, who would you cast in the major roles, and would anything need to change to accommodate your vision? Continuing with the example of 20000 Leagues, I'd imagine, for instance, that casting Cote de Pablo was Ned Land would at the very least lend to the character basically echoing Mary Read if the movie was a period piece like the 1954 film was, which is not a bad thing by any stretch.

The only real rules to follow for the purposes of discussion is that you're casting this remake today. That means that you're using contemporary actors, so the late Alan Rickman is off limits, as is the Dame Judi Dench of 20 years ago. Other than that, knock yourself out.

So Escapists, who would you cast in remaking the movie of your choice?
