In the recent couple years, companies have tried to cash back in on "golden games" (good games from the previous gens of consoles) through the use of HD remakes. these are usually just reskins of the older games with different graphics and (maybe) reworked models and textures.

This isn't what this topic is about (kinda.) What this is about is remastering entire games. We all have those games that we really enjoyed as a child and dearly wish they could be brought forward and enjoyed by more people. But unfortunately, copies of the games are usually not available outright and may not even be compatible with today's technology. Some may even suffer from the fact that they did not age well and are kinda hard to watch after seeing what we have today.

What I think should be done is this: remaster a game, don't reskin and call it good. The developer should put some effort into the game, add in some new content that is outside the main game (a side quest or some new toy to use) then, put in some time on the visuals, sounds, and models so that they are up to par with today's visuals while still trying to stay with the original in terms of style.

well, since this is simply a "in my perfect world..." type of post, just leave a game that should go through this process, for better or for worse.

for added discussion, you can also dissect my definition of remastering

(examples of remastered would be baldur's gate: enhanced edition and, to a lesser extent, the upcoming re-release FF7)

(quick side note: captcha is one, two, three... well, at least they are trying to root out some of the trolls.)
