I found my old Game boy Color today and it still had Pokemon yellow in it. I sat down and played it for atleast 2 hours. Then I started thinking, why did we have to introduce another 1000 (of course Im over exaggerating) new Pokemon. Anyways, does anyone else miss the old school Pokemon, if so which ones? Mine had to be Squirtle!

I think the original 150 were really good because they had the right balance between looking realistic looking cartoony and having some oddity to make them interesting. Each series had less and less good pokemon and now pretty much all of them look too cartoony or just plain stupid.

I don't miss the older ones because they're still in the newer games.

The newer Pokemon give the game more variety in terms of content, everyone loves finding out what the new batch of Pokemon look like whether they're good or bad. And every generation has it's gems. Without the newer generations we'd have missed out on so many great Pokemon.

id say gen 1-3 were perfect, gen 4 was where it started to go down hill and gen 5 is where it crashed into a sewage plant

What do you mean 'miss the first 150'? They're still there, even the really dumb ones.

I don't know why people are so nostaligic for the original pokemon. Do they just forget Jynx? Ignore the total lack of creativiness that went into creating 'Seal'? What about Diglit who is just a cluster of silly doodles with no real indiction of what it looks like, and it's 'evolution' that is just three slapped together? The cartoon qualities of Mr Mime have yet to be surpassed, and Magmortar was a desperate effort to give Magmar some dignity.

The biggest reason to make more pokemon, after, y'know, it prints money, is to expand the world. Have you seen how many animals we have on our planet? Have you seen how awesome of f***ed up some of them are? Like many I'm still waiting for a platypus pokemon (unless that was Magmar, in qhich case what a jip!) Also:

Serioulsy? 5th Gen as terrible? It's the first Pokemon game in ages where I've wanted to capture and train everything I saw. Even Klink! Which is more than I can say for mysoginistic clown Mr Mime!

Remember when game systems only had 16 bits? Man, when they added those other bits it totally ruined the whole thing I mean look at all the diversity. I can't even count the number of colors they can make now or see all the pixels! What is this non-sense. You young whippersnappers! Oh, my hip.

I don't know why people get upset over this. How does a series evolving affect your memories and your connection with it in any way what so ever? Just because something changes doesn't make your memories any less valid. Everything changes and gets forgotten and we can't hold it in stasis. Either Pokemon gets new mons or it dies from stagnation. Which do you want a running franchise with more things or a long dead franchise?

Really? Sure the mechanics work great but the pokemon just look god awful, id say myabe 10-15(excluding legendaries) that didnt want to make me scribble something better over my screen. what i would LOVE is being able to switch inbetween all of the regions, you could pick one to start in and work around from there i would preorder that and try not to drwon myself in my own drool while i wait for it to arrive.

I actually do miss it JUST being the original 150... and Mew. I could even stand the next 2 generations, although the ruby/saphire generations were starting to push it. My favourite original? Definitely Sandslash, and I have no idea why.

I never really played anything beyond the original red/blue/yellow versions. I love the original 150 pokemon (bulbasaur is my favorite). Though, I've never really experienced any of the new games and pokemon, I'm sure they each have their pros and cons.

To be fair its very subjective, personally I like all of the generations of pkmn in their own way, I can't find any problem with gen 5 so far although a few of the names aren't that great... I do think that gen 1 is put on a pedastool though, not because it had better pkmn but because they're nostalgic.

They're still around, for fucks sake. Sure some of the new pokemon are shit. Some of the old pokemon are too. If they didn't add new pokemon, they'd be forced to make entirely the same game again and again.

For me it goes like this:

- Gen 1: Good
- Gen 2: Good
- Gen 3: Meh
- Gen 4: Good
- Gen 5: Terrible when you first see it and good when you get used to it.

The issue with Gen 5 is that it redefined what a Pokemon was. It made the theme of the game much more modern/industrial, and the Pokemon followed suit. Once you learn that a lot of the newer Pokemon don't see so bad, and a few you can only appreciate once you see them in-game.

I really liked Pokemon as a great portable RPG back in the day. I kind of missed out on the following iterations and now it's just been far too long for me to get back into it, without feeling like a noob, despite having dominated the first gen game.

I miss it because 150 pokemons is, to me, the right balance between too many and too few to catch.

450ish something pokemon is just too many for my taste.

At least 150 were completely catchable >.>
And it was true to the original goal of the game i.e. CATCH THEM ALL?

Though with every pokemon game I play now, it feels.... the same but yet so very different.
I think it misses some of the initial idea behind the game.

Then again, I think they go with different stories all the time so it's not about beating the pokemon league anymore. It's about something else -.-
