Father's advice for getting rid of a cold:
Honey,
Lemon/Lime,
Ginger,
Some hot water,
Rum. Do not forget the rum dear boy.
Thanks... Captain? He gave me white rum by the way. I almost went blind, chest burnt like a mother fucker and throat and nose was clear as a tunnel but boy is that cold gone.

You know, we all get older and because we live in the internet age, things just don't last long anymore. Lets put on our rose tinted nostalgic glasses and take a trip down memory lane for this "Remember when..." thread. Good or maybe bad? Be easy on the bad.

Remember when... When you brought an electrical product, it would came with a flipping charger? Not just a damn USB wire APPLE & SONY!!! (other companies apply)

Remember when... A phones battery life would last for weeks and, you know, not break if you drop it onto a pillow??

I got more but your turn now.

You buy electrical products and they don't give you the charging cable? What the hell is going on over there???

Remember pre-vaccine polio and computers that took a team of people to move?

Okay, fine. Remember the pre-Google YouTube days?

New iPods don't come with wire, 3DS, some, you need to buy the charger separately, Some SONY camcorders only comes with the USB wire.

There was a pre-Google YouTube? Daily Motion?

Remember when they published a higher number of realistic manga series? When it wasn't only about huge-eyed chibis screaming senpaaaaai?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Must be different where you live; they're part of the deal here (you usually pick between a USB charger and a wall charger with Apple shit, and they don't include the adapters for overseas).

Yeah, YouTube was started by two dudes and they had to sell it to Google after Viacom sued YouTube for all the music that was being uploaded.

You'd be surprised how many there actually are. They're just not very popular with the teenage audience.

Anyway... Remember when anime had feature films NOT based on anime shows? Remember when the Metropolis anime came out back in the day and wasn't very good, but you look back on it now and it's actually pretty amazing compared to what we get today?

Remember when people actually thought monopolies were bad, and if you told them that much of the internet would soon submit to one that was not only a privacy nightmare, but couldn't even spell its own name right?

Trick question: My father's been dead before I could get remedy-based advice like that!

OT: Remember when the internet was actually just a gigantic experiment?
Remember when "demographic" wasn't color-coded?
Remember when people thought they were living in the best generation of all time due to pure ignorance?

Okay, maybe some of those are still going on to this day...

You telling me you DON'T play the same games over and over again? I thought I had alot of disposable income I didn't dispose of because I'm a lazy git...how fucking disposable is your high score record keeper?

OT:

Uhhh...remember when expansion packs were those things you looked FORWARD to? Before they ran off with that homewrecking ***** and sent their new kid "Pre-Order DLC" back for you to take care of?

When the New Doctor Who wasn't a slog to watch?

When Multiplayer meant actually having friends over?

When things like the Lost in Isaac weren't found out by file diving?

When pixel art was because of the hardware not being good enough for more? And was actually pretty good considering? And wasn't on every half indie game out there because "RETRO GUYZ!"?

Remember when Illinois didn't have incredibly shitty governors?

No. No you don't. Because it has never happened. Ever. In all recorded history.

I mostly played games over and over again because I enjoyed them. This was, of course, a simpler time, before we discovered that the only way to extend longevity of games was online multiplayer. Of course, I played a couple games because I was determined to not only beat them, but dominate them.

OT: remember when nostalgia threads like this were for old people like my parents, nto young people like me?

I remember when I had to scavenge allowance money, constantly trade in games, and buy dirt cheap used games, just to have a new game to play on a monthly basis. Twas dark times indeed.

Remember when YouTube comments were formatted correctly, with indents to the n^th degree, making it clear which comment was a reply to which? Or when you wrote down highscores/passwords on every flat(ish) surface of your home?

...and just to even things out, remember when Riven came on five discs that you had to swap back and forth between like a manic DJ, only to find out you forgot something several discs back?

Farms, Pepperidge, all that jazz.

Remember when...

1) You pressed the power button the TV and it instantly turned on? Like... INSTANTLY. None of these 1~3 second blank screens "is it on yet" moments. Same with channel changing. You could flip through all (less than 100) channels twice before the commercials ended.

2) Same thing with video games. Turned on, press start, game was being played. Good ol' SNES.

3) Penny candy. I don't think I'd buy it anymore but it was nice to have things you could actually buy with a penny.

4) Casual racism and bigotry. You were just allowed to have an opinion about something and no one got hurt.
