Remember when a new Star Wars Battlefront game would come out, and it went above and beyond everything you had hoped to be included in a follow up to the last Battlefront game?

Remember when addons to games were actually LONGER then games themselves?

Remember when in RPGs you were supposed to actually roleplay, not click everything to death and pick of 3 lines to choose?

Remember when you had to write stuff down when you played games? I know it happens sometimes still, but I think the last time I did it was Myst.

Remember MS-DOS? Remember all those kickass flight/space combat games for the PC? X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Red Baron, Aces Over Europe, A-10 Tank Killer, F-117A Stealth Fighter 2.0, etc. Truly, it was a golden age for the genre.

Remember when game publishers didn't try to nickel-and-dime you to death with DLC, micro-transactions and season passes? Remember when cool shit like cheat codes and alternate skins came free on the cartridge/disk? Remember when the industry was about the passion first, money second instead of the other way around?

...Remember Rocko's Modern Life? After all these years it's still hilarious as ever.

Remember when Barbas wasn't a lunar surf nazi that spent his day laughing evilly about trying to smuggle changes in mod policy without discussion in the mod chat group. What happened man you used to be cool and then you sold out to the evil forces of corporate oppression. Just look at yourself, you have Piers Morgan as a henchman.

I remember when I had to scavenge allowance money, constantly trade in games, and buy dirt cheap used games, just to have a new game to play on a monthly basis. Twas dark times indeed.
New game every month? I usually had to wait for my birthday/christmas to roll around before any new games came my way. You really got to learn every nook and cranny of games back then. Half the fun was dicking around with glitches once you'd done everything you were supposed to be able to do. Games these days are almost too well designed.

Yeah, I remember dial-up. That terrible terrible speed... Great Odin's Raven, the speed... D: Even when Broadband was a fancy new thing back in the day and was still starting up, dial-up STILL sucked. And AOL... FFS.

The only thing I miss from the internet in those days, although now I really really miss it, was the... Kind of freedom and innocence that the Internet had as anything has when it first begins to catch on. And the forums. _>

*sigh*

BTW, anyone remember this?

Remember when you unlocked all the characters in a fighting game by playing it?

and I'll go there:

Remember when searching for porn on the internet using 56.6 modem you were upset when the picture loaded enough to show you she still had underwear on in this one?

1) You pressed the power button the TV and it instantly turned on? Like... INSTANTLY. None of these 1~3 second blank screens "is it on yet" moments. Same with channel changing. You could flip through all (less than 100) channels twice before the commercials ended.
This an often forgotten casuality of the change to digital television. But then again I don't watch television anymore (yet regularly watch 3-4times as many television shows as I did then) so I'm not complaining.

I don't think I've ever had a TV that didn't take at least a few seconds to turn on.

OT: Do you remember when after two years of being out a console would have at least a few hundred games made for it?

Do you remember when the different cartoon stations had at least 15 different shows play on any given day instead of marathoning the same five all day every day?

Do you remember when a few boxes, a pair of scissors, and some tape were all you needed to make a really awesome fort?

I got one: remember when Nickelodeon had decent cartoons? Now all we have are stupid cartoons, dumb tween sitcoms and formerly good shows run into the ground while the rest of the good stuff is relegated to late at night just for the nostalgia crowd.

...yes, I'm very bitter, what of it?

My Dad always gave me warm milk to help me sleep if I was having issues getting to bed. I don't think it does anything really but the idea of it making me sleep easier still helps. Thanks brain. :p
