Speed from Sonic the Hedgehog. The ENTIRE point is moving FAST, and timing every movement just perfect. Take that away, focus on the story, and...well you know what happened next.
I got this one, then Sonic turned into a werehog. Though that you say story, you probably were thinking of a different awful Sonic game.

Removing cover from gears would change the game but they are a lot of attacks now in gears 3 that ignore or reduce cover anyway (diggers, one shots and mantle kicks to name but 3)

How about removing the dismemberment mechanic from dead space? That would pretty much make it resident evil in space. Yawn!

Mass Effect: both games, remove the dialogue system.
I agree 200%. It just made the game more smooth because I wasn't having to stop to study the dialogue choices to make sure I chose the right one I was looking for. That allowed me to pay better attention to what was being said, instead of worrying about what the next dialogue choices would be and how some random line form what was being said would be important and be a part of the next dialogue choices and be a part of the right choice for me.

That is why I was so thankful to BioWare for integrating it into Dragon Age 2, the dialogue system in DA:Origins is and out dated system. It was just so slow to use and the dialogue used in it was just so blaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh.... I really really hope BioWare doesn't listen to people that complained about the new dialogue system being in DA2, because I seriously hoping they keep it in DA3. The ancient system used by DA:Origins is one of the reason I still haven't beat the game. Everything about that game is slow as tar, dialogue, combat, and leveling.

I think that the age of the silent protagonist is over, at least if it isn't I'm going to get a spiked club and beat it to death. I want my games to be fully voiced, especially the character I'm playing. Playing a game like DA:Origins these days, just feels awkward and lacking having everybody around me talking away and talking to my character, while his end of the conversation is just him blankly staring at people like he is trying to speak telepathically. What I found really messed up is they did give the player characters in DA:O voices in combat and while out of dialogue and opening things up, but no voice when in dialogue situations. If they were going to give the player character a voice, they should have made the character fully voiced in all situations, or not voiced the character at all.

-----------

Now for my go, speaking of Dragon Age 2:

Changing back one of the wonderful fixes they made to dialogue, leveling and ability system, combat, and interesting and varied party characters.

Other than there being only 6 or so different dungeon type areas, Dragon Age 2 is a masterpiece.
There are a lot of people who like that "outdated" system, You know, people who don't get bored when there isn't something exploding or dying for 30 seconds.
You like the new dialogue system because you don't have to pay attention to it? Why have a dialogue system at all? Hell, lets remove the levelling system as well, so you only have to push one button till all enemys are dead.
The whole reason why i am so angry at bioware is, that they didn't listened to the people, who liked Dragon Age Origins and improved it for them.
No, they listened to the people, who didn't like Dragon Age Origins andd "improved" the second one for them.

...

Sry for being offtopic here. Let me think...
Remove open world from risen.

If you can make a game awful by just removing one feature then it's not a very good game to begin with, is it?

Horde from Gow2...oh wait...Epic already did that -_-
What do you mean the removed horde from GoW2?
They didn't; they stuck it in GoW3 and give players the ability to earn in-game cash to buy defences from a defence tree. IMO and the opinion of many it's a vast improvement. Other than that it's identical.
Yeah i am aware of what they did in GoW3, but he is saying that they removed it from GoW2.

Not if that one thing distinguishes itself from the competition or predessessors. Removing Yoshi from Mario Galaxy 2 would 'ruin' it becuae it'd be a few DLC levels for Mario Galaxy 1, except the Wii doesn't do DLC. Or take transforming into a robot out of the first Transformers game. Now it's Spy Hunter.

My contribution: Take multiplayer out of Borderlands. Mah gawd.

Save Feature from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. Good luck getting through that game winning every time and not losing your best characters!

@Siege_TF

Like I said, then it's not a very good game to begin with. If taking Yoshi out 'ruins' Mario Galaxy 2 then the game relys on a SINGLE gimmick. Under normal circumstances taking out a single element should not jeopardize the gameplay and that's the most important part. Arkham Asylum comes to mind. Take any single element out and it's still a good game.

Banjo-Kazooie, removing Kazooie makes it a platformer that is far beyond what a fat bear can physically achieve.

Leveling up in Modern Warfare 2.
Even less people would play it.
For this to be on-topic it would have to be an excellent game in the first place.

OT: The exploration factor from any RPG. I mean, who would play Oblivion or Fallout if it was sold as an FPS?

Take out the conversation system in Mass Effect games.

Take out the choice/branching nature of the story from Alpha Protocol.

Take out the investigation elements out of LA Noire.

Take out the WH40K lore from Space Marine.

Take out the open-world element from Elder's Scrolls games.

Take out the line "I never asked for this" from Human Revolution.

1: That would actually improve the game, as a lot of the balance issues stems from perks taken through the levelup system, not to mention prestige hackers.
Prestige hacking levels the field for players that want to play at a good level but aren't willing to grind out a billion hours to do so. I think it'd make it worse because less people would play it on PC if they weren't being skinner boxed?
