Straightforward isn't the word I would have used to describe
Spec Ops, especially in a medium that tends to produce
Bulletstorm more often than
Mass Effect (which is still not a very fitting example of something truly complex).
I'm surprised how many people condemn the book not based on its methods or content but based only on the subject. Surely even simple or basic practices and rituals are worthy of cultural examination, so long as it's done well. There's nothing straightforward in the world of meaning-making after all.
