It's always interesting to see fiction predict the future. Glasses with a HUD were important items, along with other interesting tech like gloves that shoot electricity from the finger tips, in the books of Daemon and Freedom by Daniel Suarez. I highly recommend those books to everyone.

Those glasses look just like the type of 'glasses' all those hipsters wear. I suppose that's really the only viable option for this type of super glasses. Ray-bans are the only types of shades I suit however.

I just don't know if I'm comfortable trading my sex appeal for anything less than laser beams and/or x-ray vision.
Glasses are sexy, and don't you let anyone else tell you otherwise.

So they make glasses just a bit more effective? I was hoping for a cure for blindness :(
Also, if they don't design them like Geordi La Forge's visor they'll lose all their credibility to me as scientists.

Done to a much better standard several years ago [http://www.mymultiplesclerosis.co.uk/misc/robochick.html]. Admittedly the experiment was never concluded, but that was largely due to the untimely death of the person responsible for the technology.

Also, shining bright lights into the eyes of people whose eye's are already damaged? I see no way that can lead to further medical complications!

I was really hoping this was something that could cure blindness. It's just for super-duper blurry vision. I'm disappointed, as much as I hate these stupid 20th century glasses I'm stuck with wearing. These are peasant's spectacles! GET ME THE FUTURE!

PhysOrg explains:

The glasses have video cameras mounted at the corners to capture what the wearer is looking at, while a display of tiny lights embedded in the see-through lenses of the glasses feed back extra information about objects, people or obstacles in view.

In between, a smartphone-type computer running in your pocket recognises objects in the video image or tracks where a person is, driving the lights in the display in real time.

The extra information the glasses display about their surroundings should allow people to navigate round a room, pick out the most relevant things and locate objects placed nearby.
So it's a scouter?

I can see that being an issue for farsighted people. What with the lens being in front of their eye and all.

I really hope someone will make a cell-shading mod for this when it comes out.

While I do wear glasses I doubt my sight are bad enought for me to wear those. Still this will be good news for some people with sight problems.

The problem with these glasses is that if people have that rare disease that literally destroys the optic nerve; they will not do anything as the light cannot reach the brain! And what about people with a glass eye?
