Okay guys, I'm upgrading my Mobo, GPU and CPU on my PC.
What I'm getting is an - Intel Core i5 2500k CPU.
Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3R Motherboard
and a Gigabyte Radeon 6870 Overclocked.
Would these parts be sufficient enough to be able to run Battlefield 3 on high (thats my bench mark) I'm open to criticism.

What type of Power Supply do you have?

While those components may, in theory, be able to run Battlefield 3, if your PSU isn't powerful enough (or of sufficient quality), then you really run a risk of damaging one or all of your new components when you put them under load.

I say this because I recently bought a new GPU, (an Asus GTX 560ti), but shortly after ordering it I realised that my dubious brand "700W" PSU was a real weak link in my system and a potential liability, so I also spent another 40% on top of my GPU and got a decent Antec 750W PSU.

What's your current mobo? You might need to invest in new RAM as well if you're going from something like DDR to DDR3.

My advice is go for I7 instead of I5 not much of a price difference in the two and the I7 is worth it.
There's an $80 difference in Australia. I'll think about getting one.

And I'm running a 3 year old mobo, with 3 year old shit with it. RAM might have to come with it.

If you are going to spend more cash get a better GPU.
What would you have in mind? Please, if you can - find it on Pccasegear.com for me :)
Go here if you can afford it, this is the minimum price range you want to be in to play new games:

Much more powerful than the 6850, but still reasonable. I have the one in the link and if you tune the fan controller (I used MSI Afterburner) it runs really quietly. Looks like the 560 Tis are at best barely cheaper there, and IIRC a little bit slower and more power hungry. Never go cheap on your GPU, you'll only regret it.

And...cue all the nVidia fans to tell you that AMD drivers suck >

*This is like my 4th edit in 2 minutes: I don't know what Australian dollars are worth, but those are EXACTLY the prices I paid in Canada.

AMD is more bang for your buck, and overall better.

Unless you're buying super-low end machine, intel has a clearly tested superiority. #justfyi
Oh no no no no. I'm referring to the AMD GPU's.
