replaying games

I only recently finished my second full playthrough of the Witcher 3, replete with the two expansions. I thought I'd played the game to death during my first run but there were a frankly surprising number of side quests I discovered this time around- actual side quests, that is, not treasure hunts although there were plenty of those too.
Aside from that, FTL is my first choice whenever I feel like hitting up a rogue-like (usually twice or thrice a month)- still haven't unlocked all the ships- and I'll usually start a new run of XCOM 2 every month.

I get what you mean. Every so often I'll resolve to replay Brothers in Arms but then I remember having to fight two tanks with nothing but my fists and a few stickybombs and I'll... not.

I've played Diablo II a lot, and I honestly don't remember the number because of how many times I've played it. I played it a lot in high school and into my first round of college, and I guess until the third one came out. It was my go-to game when I needed to relax and take my mind off of things.

Then there's Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood, and I've played both about six times each. Normally I play II, and then I feel like I have to play Brotherhood.

Then I've played Deus Ex: Human Revolution about four times and the Director's Cut I've played four times as well. I can practically look at a screen shot and know exactly what you're doing and where you are. Kinda sad really. I plan on playing it again before the sequel comes out because reasons. Honestly, I just play the game again after I talk about the game with Shrekfan. :p

I blame you for my addiction. XD

Anyways, I typically don't replay a game before the sequel unless the plot is super important and I don't remember specific details because of the timing between the two games.

I used to replay games all the time, but it's becoming harder and harder to justify when I have such a huge pile of shame that I haven't played. I know I'll have to start a new game on Bloodborne at some point since I still haven't gotten around to Old Hunters yet. Will probably have to do that with Dark Souls 3 as well.

I'll usually find a Pokemon game to replay from time to time (thinking HeartGold, which I never actually finished before) or a Persona (P3P or P4 story mode of PQ?). I bought the Director's Cut of Human Revolution and haven't got around to playing it, that could be something to do before Mankind Divided. And you know, I really want to have another go at Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance cos that game's fucking awesome.

I don't know. It has less to do with any sort of system and more to do with just my mood.

I replay immediately games that I like a lot (Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Portal). It's more likely I replay short games if they are fun. I don't think I replay games in preparation for new releases.

I reeplay a game if I get an urge to - if I suddenly just want to dig it out and go through it. Semi-replaying Doom 3 now, though with a duct-tape mod cause Thats how I played it the first time.

Despite my backlog I do find myself going back and replaying games if only a bit. I think I'm doing pretty well right now: I've never played Tokyo Mirage Session or Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam before but I can see myself immediately going back and playing Tokyo Mirage Session again after I beat it the first time. In general, I will go back and replay a game that I've played before but I usually give it a year or more. I've beaten games like Final Fantasy IV, VI, VII, IX and X more than once but they've all been within so many years of each other that I didn't beat them on the same console...if...if that even counts. So does it count as me replaying a game if I play an update or port of it years after? I started a second playthrough of Twilight Princess about a month before Twilight Princess HD was announced and immediately stopped playing the GC one so I wouldn't be burned out when the Wii U one launched.

I suppose Rogue-likes are games that I replay but replays are kinda required if I want to beat them...same with old-school arcade games.

...

Easy answer: Yes I replay games.

Yeah. That's the problem with some games, but I try to find ways around it.

Far Cry? When I want to play that one, the Island level is the best one to tackle: It has all of the great parts of the game, and none of the bad ones

Dino Crisis 2? I know, not the best game, but I've gone back and replay it. Stop when the underwater mission begins. THE GAME IS OVER

Game where everything interesting is gated off until you sink a huge amount of time into it? Find a saved game online

As for which game I've replayed the most, excluding short ones, it's probably Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I once had a save where I made it to the end twice with each character selection: One with all the emeralds, one with none, and the game still occasionally makes it into the rotation

I replay Descent/Doom/Far Cry every few years, and various other games get revisited from time to time. Recently, I've been playing Bad Company 2 (multiplayer) and Superhot again.

How long do you usually wait before replaying a game?
Usually until after I've finished another game and have this period where I can't quite decide what I want to play next so I just replay a game I know I liked until I feel impassioned.

What game have you replayed the most?
I'm fairly certain I replayed "Halo 3" so many times back when it was new I couldn't think of another game managing to surpass it. I still find it compulsively (re)playable now. There are other major figures like "Oblivion", "Far Cry", "XCOM: Enemy Unknown", "Dark Souls III" etc which I know well enough to sink my teeth into at the drop of a hat. "Far Cry" in particular may as well be branded in my brain.

Do you ever replay games to get ready for upcoming sequels?
Usually only for sequels in fairly long running series, so I replay a chunk of games rather than just the odd one or two.

I think I replayed the entire "Gears of War" series in preparation for the Ultimate Edition that came out last year.

Yep. I spend quite a lot of time hesitating to replay any game thinking about such moments. Whenever I feel like replaying the first "Saints Row" I always hesitate knowing I find the central missions of Los Carnales to be such a drag.

It's complicated for me. I'll play or replay what I want based on what kind of gameplay I'm looking for. If I just feel like non-stop carnage is what I want, I'll play through half of Serious Sam 3. Sometimes I want a shooter to have more of a sedated and fun feel, and to that feeling I have Half-Life 2 which functions uniquely to any other shooters I've played, and it has the gravity gun. I've played through HL2 maybe 10 times now.

Right now I'm replaying Shadow of Mordor because I wanted to murder orcs non-stop and rapidly clear vendetta missions to kill the orcs that have killed everyone on my friends list, and random people on Steam that could be playing the game.

I'll go on a kick of playing a particular game or a small set of games for days, mercilessly getting replay value. I often find it preferable to play what I already know has been fun to trying new games, because they're unknown whether they would be any good, and because they cost monies.

My backlog is huge, and my propensity to replay things I've found enjoyable is not helping to reduce it.

Usually not long enough... especially if I'm gunning for that 100% platinum trochievement, which I usually plan for beforehand anyway... Otherwise, if the game makes me thing "One more once", then it's another replay and my [growing] backlog weeps in the corner once again...

Other than that, in regards to series in general, I try to marathon through them, but tend to [re]play them during moments of not playing other games that I haven't played/trying to play for the first time, though... Still, it's all scheduled from start to finish...

No, Bioshock is amazing, I see no problem here.

Anyway.

As a nearly strictly solo player, I replay games quite often. Bioshock (Infinite especially), The Last Of Us, Bayonetta 1 and 2, Alien: Isolation a couple of times, on a second run of Bloodborne because I didn't know I shouldn't have beat the game before buying the DLC, games, and most recently DOOM, A LOT.

I actually do replay games to refresh myself for sequels unless the backlog's huge, if a new Splinter Cell is announced I'm not gonna replay all of the games, heck I still to to play through Chaos Theory, Double Agent, and Conviction a first time. Same with Deus Ex: Human Revolution; I didn't finish it but I restarted it because I put it down for so long that when I picked it back up I didn't know where I was or what I was doing and I want to finish it before Mankind Divided but I might be losing interest in it, I don't know.

I've put in, according to Steam - which doesn't cover full playthroughs of all 3 games on console - I've put in 310 combined hours playing these games. 116 on Bioshock Infinite, 100 on Bioshock, and being the lesser of the 3 on 93+ on Bioshock 2.

I only replay games if they're short enough and are thus conducive for speedrunning. For example I replay Resident Evil 3 every other week, because it only takes like an hour more or less to fully beat and I want to get faster each time.

Longer games, like Final Fantasy or Metal Gear, I don't play again, because it just isn't realistic for me to speedrun them. Speedrunning FFIX is impractical, because the best times atm are 9 hours and pausing the game invalidates the run. I also don't replay games I played for the story.

Rarely. I want the sequel to feel refreshing and, at the same time, familiar and nostalgic. Playing follow-ups back-to-back feels taxing.

"How long do you usually wait before replaying a game?"

Usually a couple of years or so at least. That way I forget a lot about the game and have a more fresh experience (especially RPG's)

"What game have you replayed the most?"

Probably Half Life 1 and it's expansions. Contrary to the above I tend to replay it about once a year. Even with the expansions it's an overall short experience, but I find it incredibly fun.

"Do you ever replay games to get ready for upcoming sequels?"

Occasionally. I'm more in the boat of marathoning a series when all or most of the games are out. For example, I'm currently playing through all the Metroidvania Castlevania games on my tablet at work during lunch.

I'd love to have the time to replay stuff like I used to. Now I barely have time to get through most games once. Still make an exception for stuff like Souls and MGS though, and would throw The Witcher series in too if time wasn't a factor. Also doing Platinum runs for the God of War series. I still play smaller titles here and there but have really honed in on the bread n butter as I've gotten older.

Oh yeah, all the time! At one point, I thought about playing Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines with each of the clans. After my third playthrough I realized just how much I hated the sewer section. Haven't touched the game since.

OT: There are a handful of games I enjoyed enough to replay on a regular basis. Every couple of years I'll pull out Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, The Assassin's Creed 2 Ezio Trilogy and Diablo II.

And after every season of "Game of Thrones", I find myself playing Skyrim...either as an existing character or a new one.

How long I wait depends on the content. The more prominent the story is, the longer I'll wait, since re-experiencing the same story when you already know everything that's going to happen can be a tedious experience. After finishing something like Persona 4, I'm likely to wait months before the story feels old enough to rekindle my interest in re-experiencing it.

If the story isn't such a big part of the game, however, then I can replay it mere moments after finishing it. Thanks to the minimalist approach Dark Souls games have to their storytelling, I've been able to replay Dark Souls 3 at least six times, experimenting with new builds, or tackling New Game +, all without me feeling the need to play something different.

Still, after six playthroughs, I've become far too familiar with the level designs and boss patterns, to the point where nothing really surprises me, so I've finally decided to switch to Salt and Sanctuary. It's good to be lost and confused again.
