This has been spoken on for long length. Well... Mostly just a shinier version. It's not just an upgrade for the graphics. They would have to remake a whole game. I think the costs would outweigh whatever sales they could make of it.delanofilms said:I seriously hope so. Yes they do, the DSi sacrifices it's GBA slot to have a SD reader. And the wii came with one built in. But, I've never been able to do much more on the wii then look at pictures on it... I'm not sure about the DSi, as I haven't got one.GeorgW said:They already do. How would the cost outweigh the cost? One of the best selling handhelds with the biggest selling game. I mean if FF 13 made a profit, then a 7 remake would do just fine.Celtic_Kerr said:This has been spoken on for long length. Well... Mostly just a shinier version. who knows. Might work, but they probably won't bother
Because you can't JUST revamp ther graphics, they need to redo the whole damned game. It's explained by shamous Young I think. Basically they have to remake the whole thing, they need to toss ALOT of money at this to bring it all up nice and shiney. Then you have the people who won't JUST buy a remake, and the people who won't buy a hand held, and if they fuck up with one thing on the FF7 remake, fans will never forgive them. THey're taking the safe optionThomas Guy said:How would the cost outweigh the cost? One of the best selling handhelds with the biggest selling game. Not me, SSFIV 3D is going to be played a lot.Tinq said:Especially for a system that many people will play in short spurts.Heart of Darkness said:I'm also glad they're keeping the cart format because minimal loading times are always awesome.
on the dsi you have the option to listen to music but only in a certain formatBigsmith said:Yes they do, the DSi sacrifices it's GBA slot to have a SD reader. And the wii came with one built in. OT: looks awesome, lets hope the 3DS is powerful enough to be able to use all 8gb.
It's worth noting the size limit on original DS cards was due to cost and 8 GB of any flash memory is still prohibitively expensive for mass-produced games when compared to disc medium. Unless they're hiking the prices, 8 GB is probably not the size of the card.John Funk said:Report: 3DS' Cart Bigger Than a DVD?
Could 3DS games be carrying as much data as titles developed for the Xbox 360?
With the arrival of the PlayStation in the mid-90s, videogames irrevocably started to make the transition from a cartridge-based medium to a disc-based one. Discs were cheaper to produce and held much more data, after all - it only made sense. Nintendo clung to its cartridges throughout the N64 years, but finally transitioned to discs with its GameCube - however, its handheld platforms continued to use cartridges even as competitors like Sony's PSP introduced disc-based formats of their own.
As with the Game Boy and DS, Nintendo's upcoming 3DS will use cartridges. However, thanks to technology continuing its onward progress, this may not be the handicap it once was. Taiwanese website Gamrade [http://www.gamrade.com/article-425-1.html] is reporting that 3DS carts will hold 8GB of data - comparable to the DVD-9 discs used for Xbox 360 games. In comparison, current DS carts hold a paltry 512MB of data.
However, according to Kotaku [http://kotaku.com/5714846/nintendo-3ds-cartridges-are-so-beefy-they-might-surprise-you], Gamrade also claims that Nintendo has mandated a 2GB size limit for 3DS games for the moment. Why would it do that? Your guess is as good as mine; maybe the other 6GB is used to hold the techno-voodoo that makes the whole glasses-less 3D work.
"We've not officially announced anything on this so it's rumour and speculation - so we won't comment on it right now," Nintendo UK told Eurogamer [http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-12-20-is-a-3ds-cart-bigger-than-a-dvd]).
The 3DS is out early next year. No price tag has been announced for North America or Europe.
