REPORT: Dragon Age: Inquisiton to have Co-Op Multiplayer Sex Scenes

In a new reveal today, Creative Director Mike Laidlaw has announced that there will be multiplayer elements with the game's sex scenes.

"We saw what the Mass Effect and God of War series has done for gamer titillation within the context of gameplay and we wanted to make the next leap forward" said Laidlaw.

Details of the multiplayer sex scenes can be found below:

*Random unlocks will give you a better variety of races, genders, fetishes and clothing options
*Micro-transactions will allow impatient players to skip the build-up and skip right to the sex
*Lobbies can range from 2-10 players at a time

When asked whether or not the multiplayer will play a crucial part in the single-player campaign in a style similar to Mass Effect 3, Laidlaw was quick to dispel rumors.

"While we can all agree that sex is a great thing, it's not mandatory; your sexual life on-line will not effect your relationships within the core game itself."

This has the potential to be the first time sex has been portrayed in an unsensationalised way[footnote]By which I mean, not a strip club scene, not the protagonist being rewarded with sex or rescuing the hot damsel, etc.[/footnote] in a mainstream game. Not my kettle of fish, but I'm all for broadening the genre and expanding the boundaries. The developers have a lot riding on this (no pun intended).

can I congratulate you on the alt-text on the pic? really puts the icing on the joke and gave me a good smile. (though, would love to see the reactions if unity did implement this kind of co-op)

This seems like a cheap way to get low brow cretins hyped for the game (no offense whoever). My relationship w/ players in any non-couch setting/online multiplayer is so utilitarian and nonexistent that this makes zero design sense to me. Like, why are fetishes unlocks? Why is this a mechanic in a dark medieval magical setting? This makes as much sense as putting a forty-five minute dialogue in a porn.

Bioware sex scenes are becoming a cliche', something they "advance" purely for the sake of doing so. The closer they try to get to actual sex depictions and not implications of sex, the more the uncanny valley shows its ugly hole to all of us. Aside from having 1 or 2 of my real life friends play together and have a gay relationship in order to hilariously implicate ourselves and make jokes with our wives/girlfriends, I don't know why I'd engage in this "mechanic."
