Wow, before anyone gets excited I think you should all consider what this might mean. This could be the first confirmation that everything we've downloaded on our xboxes up till now won't be accessible on the new one. In fact it sounds like it will have a new store all together... yeah, I think the points staying would have been the good outcome here.

I find it funny how your post goes with your avatar so well. XD

OT: Pretty much what the person I just quoted said. While the point system was completely and utterly asinine this means they may be putting in a new store that won't allow transfers from the old Xbox. Plus I could still see Microsoft causing you to have to stack up things in order to buy new stuff, unlike the PSN which if you don't have enough and just link in your bank account it just takes out that much that you were missing.

They'll lose money doing that. People are more ready to spend 'fake money' than real money, it's how the casino business works.

I wouldn't be surprised if they made it so you still have to buy things in increments. So rather than being able to buy a £12.99 game you have to add £5/£10/£15/£20 to your account, so you will still have leftover amounts.
that will definatelly happen, but at least you will be able to see how much you actually have and not have to recalculate it to money every time.
but at least points werent as unstable as bitcoins.

I dunno. The Windows Live Marketplace used to use the same point system as Xbox Live, but by the time I popped on to try to buy Minerva's Den in... late 2011, I think? ...it had switched over to a "pay directly, now, in real money" system just like Steam uses. Granted, I haven't seen how the Windows 8 app store works, but I found that promising.
