I think it's worse then that. Look at the New 3DS. I didn't even realize it was a separate machine until recently. I mean, between the 2DS and 3DS XL I just assumed it was another expansion. You mentioned the Wii's marketing, and you're absolutely right. It was genius, and it was everywhere. But I can't remember seeing almost anything on the WiiU. The one commercial I did see had a guy in a dry monotone voice carefully explaining that the WiiU is seperate from the Wii. I don't know what happened to Nintendo's marketing department, but it seems to fluctuate between non-existant to actively confusing.Writr said:Nintendo's marketing problem has only been with the WiiU, I think mostly just because they don't care about it as much as they did the Wii or the DS. I mean, they freakin' won awards for their advertising for the Wii, it was so innovative and successful.Fox12 said:And here's the biggest problem. Nintendo's atrocious marketing. They may have the worst marketing of any gaming company I've ever seen. It's all way too confusing. Now they're going to try and rush this out the door, and they'll go on to make all of the same old mistakes.
Don't get me wrong, I hope they improve. I like Nintendo. They have real energy, and they're my second favorite of the big three. It's just frustrating to see a promising product fail due to woeful marketing.
But why? How many people died to lock that game beneath the hellmouth?MC1980 said:EDIT: Shit, they even leaked Seaman on the 3DS, which Iwata himself denied. Now you'd think that since that game didn't actually exist, they would be wrong. But Yoot Saito, creator of Seaman wrote a blog post after Iwata passed away where it turned out that Iwata contacted Saito to port Seaman to the 3DS.
